Orion was moved into his big boy bed at 7 months because he wasn't sleeping anyway and we thought itd be easier
A lot of my friends who've waited have really struggled with teaching their toddler to stay in the bed
As for two in diapers it's seriously not that bad, anella potty trained at 25 months and Orion was born when she was 20 months. It's a hell of a lot more work trying to potty train a toddler that's not ready
I'd wait until shes ready
As for potty training, I didn't want to rush that either. At 2.5, she still isn't showing interest in the potty. We I plan on really trying this summer, but for now, having two in diapers is what we have to deal with. I will say this: I hate it!!! Little daughter urinates a LOT. Like every hour she has a HEAVY diaper and pees through her pajamas almost every night. I literally change one diaper and then her sister needs to be changed too. I feel like I am constantly changing diapers. One poops and then the other one does too shortly after. Trash fills up so fast. I have two diaper genies and those fill up really quickly! I guess once I potty train them I'll be making tons of trips to the bathroom to wipe them and such as opposed to changing diapers, so I'll still be really busy. I do wish one was potty trained, but I think once they really show an interest, it'll be a lot easier with less resistance.
I am currently pregnant with #4. My toddler will be 22 months on Feb 7th and the baby is due on Feb 17th.
We attempted moving my toddler to the toddler bed and he wasn't ready at all. The bed was in my room by my bed. He would stir in the middle of the night, sit up, go to lay back down but being disoriented he would almost lay down with his back towards the floor where he would fall off the bed if I wasn't awake to catch him. Keeping my son in the crib is right for him now. It's not about him having his freedom and knowing he can get up and roam the house or whatever, it is about him being in a bed that will keep him safe.
I think you need to do what feels right for your daughter. I have a cradle for my newborn and plan to attempt moving my son to the toddler bed two months after the baby arrives. I will start with naptime and hopefully by time baby is 4 months and ready to be moved to a crib the toddler will be ready to be only in the bed. If not, it won't hurt the new baby to sleep in the pack in play for a little bit.
As for potty training, my toddler has made pee pee in the potty a few times. He wanted to sit. He hasn't shown much interest since those times. I know this is going to sound gross, but while changing his diaper today i was looking at his poop, which is still soft and squishy, and realized there is no way this kid is ready. He does not have big boy poop! In my opinion it is perfectly fine to introduce a potty chair to your child but potty training isn't going to work until the child is ready.
I don't know about you, but I know when I am going to need to change my toddler.... we aren't on a time schedule but there is a semi-routine. I feel like those times are times my son is going to count on me giving him my full attention because he is used to me talking and singing with him during a change. I can't imagine feeling like it is a pain in the butt to diaper my newborn and then diaper my toddler.
Potty training seems to happen whenever the toddler shows signs of being ready. I have heard situations where the parents have tried to force it and have gotten back lash. My 18 month old likes to use the potty now, but I know she is still too young to fully potty train (can't pull her own pants up, still has wet diapers in the morning). So, we just let her go when she says she wants to, reward her if she actually goes (she's pooped on the potty 4 times already!), and just let it happen. The new baby may throw a wrench in things a bit, but hopefully with lots of attention and keeping her involved with new baby will make the transition great!
As far as potty training.. I would like to get that done prior to the arrival of #2 but that is doubtful at 22 months...
Good luck to you and please let us know how it goes!
