What the heck is Hookah

My 18 year old just announced he bought some apparatus to smoke Hookah with. Sounds like tobacco to me but not sure. He's trying to convince me it is safe. If anyone knows anything about this, let me know! He's supposed to be my easy child. Graduation seems to be going to his head. HELP!

We have Hookah bars around town but I don't know much about it. Maybe try to Google Hookah and see if it helps. I'm sorry I don't know more.

A hookah is actually a type of water pipe, so it's something you use to smoke not something you actually smoke. We have hookah bars too (who knew?). Apparently the sell different brands and types of loose tobacco which a customer buys and, well, smokes in a hookah. I guess most of them have food too. A place to hang out with your buddies and inhale second hand smoke?

Have to admit in my day (admittedly a very long time ago) we weren't smoking tobacco in our hookahs but sounds like times have changed. I'd still keep an eye out though.

Yes a hookah is used for smoking tobacco...but it is also used for smoking pot...and I'm not sure if anything else can be used in it.

Yeah like the others have stated a Hookah is a type of water pipe with long attachments that end with a tip to pull from. They can have multiple hoses from which many can share on the same hookah.
I remember a girl coming into the clinic I was working and had strep throat, and some infection around her mouth. When I inquired about her recent doings, she stated she had not done anything unusual.. oh except she had only went to a hookah bar.
I would use caution.. maybe use your own wipes.
My son told me that they can also be used for MJ but if any are found with traces the penalty is extreem.
That's all I know about them.

Thank you all. I will make sure I share the information lindarob sent regarding the contagious infection possiblities with him. He just started a job picking orders for a major drug wholesaler so I don't think he will risk getting caught doing drugs. I am concerned about him smoking in the house. We also have a 13 yr old son and I don't want him to think I condone this. I do smoke about a half a pack of cigarettes a day, but never in the house.
