This community is focused on the joys, challenges and concerns faced by parents of teenagers (12 to 18 year olds). The major areas of child development include: physical development, perception and sensory development, communication and language development, cognitive development, emotional development and social development.
I would call the teacher/coach. Tell him that what he said did really hurt your son. He might not have put much thought in to it at all that what he said caused so much trouble. If anyone can fix this its him. Maybe he can talk to your son. Ask for his help. I dont know this man so I have no idea how he is or will act but that is what I would do.

Yes, I would call the teacher. I would just politely talk to him, but tell him how what he said has been affecting your son. Do it as non-threatening and keep your voice down. He might listen better. I agree with Leah..... See if you can ask for his help in maybe turning your sons self esteem around. And tell the coach, if he doesn't know, about how your son and his dad shared this bond, and how much it means to him. I don't know if it will help any. But its worth a shot.
