Parenting Teenagers (12-18) Support Group
This community is focused on the joys, challenges and concerns faced by parents of teenagers (12 to 18 year olds). The major areas of child development include: physical development, perception and sensory development, communication and language development, cognitive development, emotional development and social development.
Well since I posted last my daughter was about pushing me over the edge. She hasn't quite drinking, but I have told her if she does drink, which I am not allowing her to, but If it happens that she starts to drink, the rule is she is not allowed around myself or my children. Because she gets violent and we can't control her when she is in that state. But she is safely still living with her grandma. I also took my truck back from her and she is not allowed to drive it at all, because she doesn't have a license to begin with. The Juvenile Coordinator has told her she needs to be enrolled in school somewhere because she is a minor, and If I don't make her go to school I will go to jail. She, for some reason doesn't believe me. But that is what they told me when we went into our "informal hearing" So I have been hounding her to get in contact with the juvenile coordinator to help her get enrolled in school. Not happening as of yet. I am so busy with work and my other children.
Which is another concern, my other three children adore her and want to be around her. But with her influence and her word against mine, its hard to keep a wrap on the other children. Because they are so impressionable. I feel so lost sometimes when it comes to my children. Sometimes I really feel as if "Do I really deserve to be a parent?"
I don't know if this is how everyone else feels, or if anyone else feels this way, but that is how I feel at this moment. In my community, its very small, so people tend to talk about each other. Well for the past 6 years all I have heard about myself is that I am a neglectful parent, and I never have my children with me. What does a single parent have to do to get people to realize I am doing the best possible job I can. I get help from my aunt alot, such as when i go shopping at the grocery store, or when i am out running errands or just need time for me. Also I work in administration, which has a lot of after hours for meetings and such. I take time out to spend with each child one on one. and then there is our once in a great while family get together. I do these things when I think its time for it.
I have worked on finding ways to spend with my children without money because we are always short on cash, beings I am a one income family of 5. I still consider my daughter part of the household because she is still yet in my custody. So I have two housholds to support, and one income.
Its difficult living with a child who has PTSD. But we are surviving, hopefully we all are making a turn around in our lives. We are having a dinner tonight in our home. But I don't know how well that will go but hopefully all my children will be there.

although some things have improved some have not and i know where your coming from i have 1 income and but supporting 2 households whiole i have my 2 girls my son has lived with his nana for 2 years its hard but i do it, does your daughter have help for her drinking?

Its hard to get family to understand where she is coming from. They are constantly telling me what I need to do with her and then tell me I am not spending enough time with her but I try my best being that I have a full time job, and I do have another family staying with me also which causes more stress. And I also volunteer this month and next month with our local victims of crime. I only do that because I want to help others to help me. If you know what I mean. So I do have a full calendar all the time.
It is being done though.
Things have calmed down a great deal in the past month since she got charged by the police. But its just like a volcano waiting to erupt. I sit on pins and needles waiting for the next thing to happen. I still yet am scared of her and I have told her that. I don't know if it helps any or if it made her more confident with me.
I just continue to spend time with her, and provide for her the best I can, and make time for me as much as I can.
