Shy children

I think it would be awesome to start a support group for parents, teachers, relatives - really anyone needing support and sharing of ideas for those of us trying to help the shy children in our lives. Let this be a haven for comparing notes and supporting eachother. I am the mother of 2 shy kids and would love to connect with others in the same situation.

My 4 year old is shy and people say he is soft, meaning it's negative for aboy, but I don't care. i was very shy as a kid too so I know how he feels. I took him to heaps playgroups and he also goes to daycare which really helped. He is still shy there but the teachers hellp him lots and show him what he can do when he gets upset. I'm confient he copes there and it is essential prep for school. I also talk with him lots about his interests and problem-solving which seems to help.

my daughter is kind of shy. She just turned 3 and is in preschool and that seems to be helping her alot!! My son is now 4 and use to be really shy and now you would never know that!

I think that's a great idea. We do have a shyness community here on DS. But perhaps we need a community for "Friends and Family of Shy People."

Also, while I don't know your circumstances, like the others mentioned below...neighborhood play dates, Gymboree type classes and even preschool are great tools to help your child face his/her "shyness."

There are also a number of great books that I can post in the recommendation section of this community.
