Potty Tarining HELP!

I have a smart daugher who just turned 3 on June 26th. She figures out so many things I just don't get why she is not getting potty training. I bought a potty chair when she firts turned 2 and put it in the bathroom so she would get used to it. As soon as we strated trying she hated that chair and fought even sitting on it. o I stopped for a while and then tried again..no go. Back in march I took her to the store and let her pick out her own chair thinking she might really not like the chair I got her. She lives it because it is supposed to play music when you potty in it and the little bugger figured out how to make it play music w/o pottying in it. I tried setting the alarm on the stove and having her sit ont he potty every 10 minutes. She actually got off the potty and went pee on the floor. I tried rewards...starting out with if you try you get a reward and now if the pee is in the potty a reward...nothing. My mom bought her underwear and I let her wear those putting her on the potty every 10 minutes or so and she went pee in the underwear twice. I asked her "where do you put your potty?" She tells me "Daddy's car" ??????? Hav no idea where she got that. She can hold her potty during a nap, she can wake up in the morning with a dry diper. When she goes swimming she does not use the little swimmies, but waits for a diaper. I know she is physically ready. The other morning when she got up and was dry I put her straight on the potty and she got up and grabed a diaper, put it between her legs and went pee on it? Help...I am not sure what to do at this point? Shoudn's she be getting this by now?

My oldest child wasn't trained until she was 3 years and three months old and then she still had accidents for a long time during the day in her panties and we put diapers on her at night till she was about 4 and frankly, she's over 5 now and she still has an occassional "accident" at night and odly enough, in the daytime too. I wouldn't worry about it. I think when they are ready, they will do it. I know it's hard to wait because you're ready for her to be trained and you get aggravated. But, I honestly think the best thing to do is give her more time. Finally with both of my children, we just started putting underwear and panties on them even though they weren't trained and we just cleaned up the accidents. We had a lot of dirty laundry for a while and it definantly took longer with my first, my daughter, then with my second, my son. But if you do this, she will eventually get the idea that there aren't any more diapers and if you even enlist her help when having to clean up an accident, she might get it a little sooner if she doesen't like cleaning it up. Just a few thoughts. Hope this helps. Remember mom, they're only little once and I know it's hard to keep your cool about this, believe me! But she will eventually get it. Good luck and God bless.

we had problems when my daughter was getting trained, she wasnt keen on the potty so we ended up putting her on the toilet instead, also putting knickers on her during the day, cos if she has an accident she isnt gonna want to stay wet is she.

I hear that girls are harder than boys. My sister has 3 girls and she is having a hard time with her middle daughter right now. I have 3 boys the 2 oldest where potty trained by about 2 yrs old. I let them run naked in the house alot when they were litte. That helped them to get control of their musclse. I also just let them play with the potty for a while. We had accidents and sometimes my 4 yr old will still have them. I never forced them. They have to do it on their own. It also helped that their dad could show them how to do it!!!! Hope things start getting better for you!

this trick worked really well for my 2 and a half year old - no potty she used the normal toilet because she was a Big Girl like mum. i let her watch me go and how clever i was for doing it so i got a sticker and then i showed her favourite toy going on the toilet and we both clapped hands and the toy got a sticker for trying because the toy was clever and big kisses and huggs. then i asked her to have a turn at being a Big Girl and if she didnt then it was OK will try again another day but if she did then Big Hugs and Kisses just for sitting on it and trying. just make sure she understands how happy it will make you feel and how clever she is and what a big girl she is just for trying.

My oldest was fully potty trained at 15 months. We tried the little potty but it didn't work. We just got one of the little toilet seats that sit on top of the regular seat (walmart has them) and put it on there, and she has peed in the potty every since then. Don't know if it will work for you, but it worked for us.

From what you said, she does "get it" she is just chosing not to do it! My little girl was potty trained just after she turned 2 but refused to poo in the potty. Like your daughter, she would either wait till I put a nappy or ask for one and then poo. This went on for 7 months, the way I dealt with it was by ignoring the issue for quite some time. Every now and then I would suggest using the potty but not make a big deal of it if she didnt want to use it and eventually one day she did. I suspect with your daughter it is more about control now, she is controlling the situation by refusing to use the potty, from what you have said she is perfectly capable of doing it. Maybe just give it a bit of time without even mentioning it then try it again and see what happens or just try going straight to the toilet rather than the potty/

I agree with many of the other replies. My daugher cried and it was a fight to get her to try the little girl potty chair. She had to do it like the grown ups. Maybe give that a try?

Oh Sweetie I feel your pain right now! My 3yr old boy just doesn't want to go on the potty. He will go in there and act everything out, down to washing his hands! But, he just won't go. Our peditrician said that for boys it takes them until about 3-1/2 for the first boy....Ugh..that's on average! I don't think I've ever wanted for anything more than to get him potty trained!

We've tried it all up to this point so far...so I guess it's his will against mine. I know at some point, he'll become embarrassed enough to go by himself. I sure hope that's sometime soon! Lord knows his will is strong and with my luck he'll decide to do it when he's 17! Good grief!

Good luck to you hun! Keep encouraging it. Make it that extra special for your little girl. LOL...but how else do you make going potty special? LOL!

Thanks so much everyone for your responses. My daugheter had her 3 year check up last week and the pediatrition thinks that sh is ready but it has become a battle of wills. Today she actually told me she had to go pee on the potty and I put her there (she sung along to the tune the chair plays, I have had it with that potty chair) and the second I turn around there was a wet spot on the floor and she told me she went on the floor. At this point think I am going to back off for a bit (a week or two) and give it another round. Keep you all posted!

Hello - my son was the same when he was learning but we got there in the end and it was when ""I"" stopped stressing about it!. In the end I left him with pants on to play on his own, I put ALL my jobs to one side for a couple of days (I prepared all meals etc when he as in bed so I could dedicate my time to him). I left him to play and when he started to wee I tried to catch it in the potty (Had to be pretty wuick of course) but he would hold it in til I turned my back so had to pretend to be occupied with something else and then catch him!!! Anyway once Id done that JUST ONCE he then understood what he had to do and that was it - Obviously HUGE hugs/kisses/praise/sweets etc and he was dry from then onwards. Dont get me wrong we've had accidents but on the whole he's done really well. That was a year ago when he was 2.5yrs. He still isnt dry at night - Im going to start that battle this week (have been away so will wait until he settles back into routine again). Keep going - she'll get there in the end!.
