Hello! I am wondering if anyone else has had this experience. My son is 3 and attends daycare full time. He has been at this daycare since August of this year, and seems to get along with the other kids. The teachers all say he is doing very well. He seems fine to me. Happy, healthy, learning and developing well.

Yesterday when I picked him up, he told me his teacher had hit him. He demonstrated a closed-fist punch to the chest (there was no mark). He said that it was because he had poo-ed his pants. When I asked him what words were used, he mumbled incoherently in a "mad mean" voice, which I take to mean that the teacher said something in that tone which my son couldn't really understand. I asked him if he had seen the teacher hitting other kids. He said he had hit one other kid, and that he ONLY hits my kid and this one other kid. My son has told me 2 or 3 times before that this particular teacher had hit him, always in a bathroom context (after an accident). I spoke to the teacher once about this, and he assured me that it was an innocent touch and not a hit. I believed him because my son, as all 3-years olds do, misinterprets and exaggerates many things. However, this time it seems like a pretty concrete and believable story.

I spoke to the director about it right away (I drove right back to the school after my son told me about it). She said she'd speak to the teacher today and we'd discuss it after school.

I'm worried about several things. I'm worried that my son is being abused, of course. I'm worried that the school may take it out on my son even more now that I've said something. I'm worried about placing my son in another facility. Ack. Any suggestions? Stories? Do kids make stuff like this up?
