Feeding your infant and ensuring they are getting enough nutrition is one of the most important aspects of parenting during that first year. This community is dedicated to those who are nurturing a baby, whether breastfed or formula-fed.
Here's the background info....
My fiancee had a kidney transplant when he was 19. His kidney's failed for an unknown reason and went undiagnosed so long that when they caught it he was functioning at 6% and basically on his death bed. I met him about a month after his transplant.a
When he found out we were expecting he started panicking that his kidney problems would be passed on to our daughter. We asked the doctor and he said that it was unlikley but possible and that we would keep an eye on the situation.
Now, my daughter has been sick for half of her life so far! She get's colds even though we stay indoors. She got ear infections. She has what the doctor's think, may be pet allergies(we have alot of pets), and recently she developed a severe allergy to cefprozil and is red and poofy!
When she is ill she tends to refuse food, and that means she tends to wet her diapers less. Then, when she is better, she gorges and pees alot. This freaks my fiancee out. He's always after me to get her kidneys checked.
I checked with our family doctor and he told me that there is currently no need for concern.
Should I get a second opinion do you think? Everyday my fiancee is after me to get it done, but the doctor told me no. I know he is worried, but I don't want to subject her to a life of testing because he is constantly spooked.
We had an appointment that another doctor had booked us but when her doctor found out he had it cancelled because he said it was ridiculous to do that to an infant if you didn't have solid concern.

I think the fact if you feel your dr isn't adequately addressing your concerns, you might think about finding a new dr. I think he should either more fully explain why it's unnecessary or I would get a second opinion. As an aside, the testing my 3 girls had required catheterization and was much more difficult for them (and me) to handle with the older girls than with my baby... far less traumatic on a baby than an older child.
I live in Canada, so all of this is free. I don't pay a dime for any doctor's visits, tests, or anything of the like. So I might as well go for it.
I did some research and they can do a simple blood test first to see if invasive surgery is neccessary. So I am going to discuss it with my fiancee and see if he want's to try and get that done.
if it keeps up, though, get a second opinion. have you switched her formula?
Her's something of curiosity though. We used to rent a suite. It had nothing but tile for flooring. We bought our first home and it is carpeted throughout, minus the washrooms and the kitchen. Since we moved she is constantly sick. Congestion, coughing, a whole whack of ailments. We have had the house inspected thouroughly for mould and such. We do have pets, but we had them at the old place and she never showed these symptoms. I vaccuum the living room and her room every single day to help her and she seems less mussed when I keep on it. On the days I can't seem to fit it in she is the worst off.
