Great question. We have to swaddle our 2mo old boy twin to sleep, whether it's for a nap or bedtime. Girl twin, not so much, but we still do. I'm interested in how long to do this too....

we still swaddle our boy at 2 months...it's the only way he will stay asleep...take away the use of his hands

The day I left the hospital my daughter stopped being swaddled. She hated being cooped up and would cry if she couldn't move her arms and legs. She has always been an active baby.

I would just put a light blanket in her crib, tuck it in under her below her armpits so her arms were free, and let her sleep. Sure, occasionally she woke herself up with the movement, but in time she just learned that that was life, you moved, and she slept through it. My daughter rolled over at three months so by the time winter hit I felt fine putting a heavier blanket in there. She rolled all over her crib all night long.

My daughter was colicky and my brother would harass me to try this 5 S thing. Finally I told him to come over and do it for me, lol. After an hour of no success he told me I could use the 4 S's, I could just knock out swaddling because my daughter was having none of it!

My son LOVED being swaddled. Ive heard that you should only swaddle until baby is 3 months old...but my son was 2 months premature so I figured I would swaddle until he was 3 months "adjusted" which would have been 5 months old. Well it took us until 8 months old (6 months adjusted) to get rid of that thing....lol I didnt care though. He slept so well in it...and everytime I would try a nap with no swaddle it was terrible. He was always scratching his face with his hands...so it helped to stop that. My sons ped and physical therapist said as long as baby is active during the day using their arms and legs then it was fine to still be swaddled until then. You do what is right for you and your baby!! If your baby doeant like to be swaddled then there is no rule saying that you have to swaddle them. Does your baby sleep well with out a swaddle? If so then dont even bother with a swaddle!!
