Wow that is rough. Thankfully, I have always had good doctors. The only problem I have had was when I took my second daughter to get her 4 months vaccination, the nurse got so offended that I was already giving her cereal. I just do not get it. When my first daughter was 4 months I was told give her cereal by her doctor now 3 years later, it is 6 months. What are they going to do in another 3 years change it back? The nurse gave me "information" about what a baby should be doing to get ready to eat at 6 months like hold the head up, turn away grab at food etc, she was doing them all. Frankly I just told her I was going to continue because a, my first daughter turned out fine and b, she is enjoying it and I will not take it away from her.
Sorry I started to rant as well. Just some people...lol

That is a horrible thing to say! I hope that your little one feels better soon. There is nothing wrong with changing doctors if you find one that you like better and who will respect you fully!

I would change doctors. You do not have to put up with that- there are too many good doctors out there. What a jerk.

I would not tolerate a dr telling me anything less but how wonderful of a job I'm doing and how awesome my kid is. I'd switch drs in a heartbeat and not think twice.
If you're unhappy you should go somewhere else. That's ridiculous! (And alot of pediatrician's think that cereal is ok at 4m and sampling "real" food is ok, too.)

Wow what a jerk. I did ask My dr about the rice cereal at 4 months thing, because my baby is 25th percentile for weight and 75th for height. He was a lot nicer then yours, but what he essentially told me was that they can actually lose overall calories when they start cereals because it reduces their urge to nurse. Im trying it anyway but Im hoping to mix the cereal with breastmilk because she doesnt seem to like formula much.

My doctor told us to start cereal at 4 months and my daughter has done a great job with it! She is completely healthy and still growing like a weed! She is now 6 and a half months old and we are up to stage 2 foods (we started stage one a little after 5 months). Stupid doctor. I would definitely switch. You and your doc are supposed to work together for your child's health. He has no right to put down your parenting abilities!

i have my share of frustrations with my sons dr.

i was asking since my son was 9 months about feeding issues. his ped kept putting it off until i was beyond my wits end and talked to my public health nurse and asker her for help. after being assessed by an OT my son's oral motor skills have not developed enough. hes 21 months now and says about 5 words. had him assessed by a speech therapist and his language skills are of a 9 month old

I'm sorry you've had such a rough time with that doctor! That is just awful. I would be extremely mad too if a doc ever talked to me like that! If you haven't decided to already, I would change doctors. There's no reason why you should have to stay with that one when there are good docs out there!

I actually had to switch docs for my daughter, too. I had gotten a lot of amazing reports from people about the first one I chose for her (which was why I chose him to begin with). But after seeing him a few times, I wasn't happy at all with anything about the office. And he wasn't anywhere near as rude as yours was! So I asked around again, and found a wonderful ped that I LOVE. I'm just sad that we are moving in a month and will have to find yet another one!! Ugh.

That's awful... I hope you're able to find a better doc sooner than later. I'm on the same boat looking for a ped for my little one. Currently seeing a Family Doc who in my opinion is way too old school for me. She suggested rice cereal in baby's bottle at 3 months old... which unfortunaltley is advice I took and tottally ignored my concerns that baby has had chronic diahreah since 3 months of age ....stopped when she was 5 months since we saw a diff. doc who told us she could be developing intolerance to lactose in her formula. She didn't even suggest getting a lab test done to ensure she didn't have any other infection or problems.. the other doc did. Grrrr makes me so angry and feel so stupid for not looking for a second opinion sooner.

Today he made me mad again. I had to take my son to the ER last night because he threw up 6 times in an hour. The ER doc examaned him and said that he thought he has a upper respitory infection and told me to go see his doc today. When we got there the nurses popped an attitude with me and made me wait for 2 hours. When we finally saw the doc he said "well what did the ER doc say" and I told him. Then he said "well that it what I think too" ... then why did I come in for you to tell me something I already know. Then he told me that he wasn't going to give me any antibiotics because it will "work out of his system on its own"

There are 4 doctors and 2 PA's in this office and of them I like both PA's and 2 of the doctors so I will probably "be busy" during the times that his original doc is in the office so I can avoid confrintation.

Sorry again but this is the only place I can rant because everyone who I know here takes there kids to the same office and they think the world of this doctor. I just don't want to step on any toes or lose any friends for having my own oppinion on this doc.

Hey if the doc gets offended that you went to go see another ped because you value their opinion more then too bad for them... it's your child's well being at stake not theirs.

I think that if I were you I would look into switching practices. If you don't like 2 of the doctors in a practice of 4 docs that seems like fairly bad odds. If you have to call in after hours, there is a 50% chance that you will get a doctor that you don't feel comfortable with. It can't hurt to just look at another practice.

The other thing is who is your child's primary doctor. Just because they are all in a practice together and cover each other, they usually assign the child to the primary care of a particular doctor and try to make most of the appointments with that doctor. If your child is primarily the responsibility of a doctor you don't like. I would get out of there.
