Remember that every baby develops at their own pace. For instance, my DD was rolling from her back to her stomach since she was 4 mos old, did this for about a month and a half and then just stopped completely. She will roll from her stomach to her back but absolutely REFUSES to do the back to stomach. She had her 6month appt and the ped reminded me that she will just develop at her own pace. Each baby is unique. If you are really worried call your ped but I'm sure your baby is just fine. :)

my son didn't sit up on his own until he was months old. some boys are a little bit slower. babies develop at their own pace.

do you have a bumbo chair ? i bought my son one and had him sit in it for short periods of time with my being there of course. within a few times of him sitting in it, he was sitting on his own. might want to try that. and bonus they are good as a highchair when you are not at home.

My DD turned 6 months on Dec 2nd and she has not rolled over yet and really like to sit and stand on your lap but prefers laying on the floor kicking her legs and scoots around that way... I really wish she'd roll over though... :)

I agree that they all develop differently. My son is a late roller. He didn't roll belly to back until almost 6 months and he is just now rolling back to belly but will only do it in his crib. I was worried about him as well but my pedi assured me that he will learn when he is ready.

I wouldn't worry. My daughter started sitting up on her own at about 5 months (she's 7 1/2 now) but her friend Wyatt, who is two weeks younger than her, just started sitting up unsupported a few weeks ago. Every baby develops at their own pace and as long as you are giving him ample opportunity to try and practice, he will figure it out eventually!

Thanks so much everyone for your replies. I certainly feel better:) Collin has met all of his othe developmental milestones and is a great roller, but he just doesn't want to sit! I did get a bumpo for him so we'll see how that works. I hope my little boy is sitting on his own soon!

A playnest is a good thing for this too - better than a bumbo in someways because they can learn to sit up themselves as it doesn't matter when they topple. My 6.5 month old still topples occasionally but I think it's when he wants to lie down more than an accident....

Beckham started sitting up when he was 4 months old. I think the reason he was able to sit up then was because he goes to Gymboree. His Gymboree teacher would put him in a sitting position then take his feet and put the soles together---so he was in a tripod position. I am sorry if I am not doing a good job of explaining it. Anyway from that position he was able to sit unassisted for great lengths of time. After about a week of us putting him in that position he figured out how to do it himself. Then he started crawling and then walking--so think long and hard before encouraging this behavior--LOL Babies do develop at their own pace. Beck is 14 months old and has been walking for awhile now but his friend is almost 16 months and he still cannot walk. They are both healthy, happy and normal they are just different kids. Our DD Paige walked at 7 months and Beck didn't start walking until 9 months. I was soooooo nervous that something was wrong with him but he did it when he was ready!!!!! Good luck!!!!

my daughter is 3 months and she can sit up unsupported for about 2 minutes at a time...but her cousin who is 6 months, can only sit up for about 30 seconds before he topples to the side. i think its no worries unless your doctor tells you that he thinks something is wrong.
i have a bumbo chair, and marlow loves it...she was sitting up for short periods of time before i got it, but since i got it she sits up for longer stretches...the only downfall is our TV is up higher and my TV head is always craning her neck painfully to watch it instead of playing with her toys!
