My soon to be 8 week old son will be having surgery next Thursday to remove a Ranula that he was born with. (a Ranula is a pocket of mucus formed under the tongue...an engorged salivary gland) I am really nervous about my little guy having general anesthesia while he is so little and young. Has anyone ever gone through this surgery or any surgery that they put you out with their baby this young?

My son is 5 days old and was born with a ranula under his tounge, on 1-1-11. I was wondering how your babies surgery went and what the process was for treating the ranula? Did they try to "pop" it first before trying surgery? Did he see a ENT doctor or did he go to an oral surgeon? How did he do with anesthesia? Please let me know, I'm sure you know how I feel.

Our son went to an ENT. It ended up being a blocked duct under his tongue and not a ranula, but the treatment is similar...they didn't even find out it wasn't a ranula until they took him for surgery. They put him to sleep and popped it...if it had been a ranula they would have done essentially the same thing, but it might have required a stitch or 2. He did fine. He's a happy healthy 7 month old now!

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper?
