I was right where you are now. it's totally normal to be feeling this way. Ella was about 4 months when she had a proper night/day schedule and 6 weeks when she started sleeping through the night for the most part. She will get there, but it does take time. You said she moves a lot in her sleep...that is normal becasue young babies nervous systems are immature. have you tried to swaddle her? I started swaddling Ella and it made a huge difference. She may feel more secure, comfortable and it will prevent her from jumping and waking herself up. Try to make it as light as possible during the day and go about your normal routine as far as vacuuming and things. Also a bed time routine may help. We bathe Ella, give her a massage, I nurse her, then we rock her/play with her a little, then we put her in her bed. It will get better, just hang in there. You're doing great! The moving a lot in her sleep just started in the last day or two. I don't swaddle her bc she doesn't like it and bc she is very strong. She always gets her arms up near her face somehow and she gets up on her side in her sleep--I'm afraid she'll face plant and gave her arms bound and not be able to push up. When she's in her tummy she can totally move her head from side to side.

I hear you! Mine is just over a month old and there is really no routine to speak of except she almost always has a long late afternoon nap! Some nights she'll sleep 4 hrs and I have to wake her to eat, others she is up every 2 hrs wanting to eat. I am certainly not worried about her appetite. I also found swaddling helps but it seems that doesn't work for her...I think until they are around 3 months the routine will be tough but we can try can't we? If it makes you feel better, my husband works oly 8-9 hrs a day a day and I am overwhelmed too! Is there anyone that can help you with her? Friend, neighbours, family? Personally I have no one and probably you have already thought of that...just know you are not alone. I find giving a bigger feed before bedtime sometimes helps her get another 30 mins or so...and keeps lights low at night etc...it has to get better right? Get sleep whenever she sleeps, this is very hard for me though.

Right there with ya girls!!! My almost 6 week old is all over the place schedule wise too. I was wondering how everyone does this so easily? Its not just me. He's also very fussy at times, crying alot. I too can only swaddle him with his arms out. I had forgotten this part with my DD 13 years ago. I knew it was hard but wow.

I will assure you ladies it does get easier! My ds is now 10 months, but when he was first born he wouldnt let us swaddle him unless his arms were out. DS wasnt a good sleeper to begin with but I did not swaddle him during the day, he would be fussy but he slept less thru the day, then at night we would swaddle him nice n tight with his arms out and let him sleep. He now sleeps better then my dd who is 1 yr older then him.

i too feel that i can relate to you. i have chosen to be a stay at home for our newborn son, and my husband works a 12 hour shift from 6 at night to 6 in the morning. i was having a problem with night time feedings aswell so i looked up on the internet to see what i could do. i found that babies tend to have a feeding frenzie at night...i think it said from 11 to 3. so what i did to fix this and allow myself to sleep more was increasing his bottle by an ounce. that was the key for me, not only do i get 8 hours of sleep (sometimes more) but he sleeps soundly. if you try that let me know if it works i will continue to reasearch for you.


one more piece of advice, make your coffee pot your best friend too hehe

My baby boy is only a week and half. But he sleeps all day and then he is awake at night off and on most of the night. I will feed him during the night and he will fall asleep but as soon as I go to put him in his bassinet he wakes up. Last night I laid him on my chest and he went right to sleep. So it seems he can sleep at night but maybe only wants too certain ways!?I can hardly keep him awake during feedings during the day and have to wake him up to eat or he will sleep through the day! I guess its just normal new baby stuff but I feel ya!
