Holiday Bonus to daycare

My 5 month old DD goes to home daycare full time and WE LOVE them! There's 2 people who run it - the lady in charge or daycare person (DCP) and her assistant who happens to be her mother-in-law. We've had DD going for close to 3 months. I know it is customary to give your childcare provider a bonus around the holidays, but what do you think is appropriate for my situation where DD has only been going there 3 months? I know I want to give something as my appreciation to her is priceless, but what is an appropriate amount? And how much should we give to her assistant as well? I've been hearing anything from $30 to a weeks pay. That can be any amount! I was thinking cash of $75 for our DCP and $50 to her assistant and definitely more next year. Just not sure. I just don't want to be stingy. Or should I give one amount, put both names on the envelope and let my DCP divy it? Just curious as to what others have given. Thanks!

And Shanny, sounds like middle school, which is what I've been grappling with with my oldest child this year for the first time. I decided on $10 gift cards to Starbucks with a handwritten note for each of my son's 5 teachers. Homemade goodies are a good idea, too, I think, or small soaps/lotions/candles/calendars.

I dont have my child in daycare but I cant believe that the going rates with some are a full weeks pay. I dont spend that much on my Mom for Christmas and she gave me my life!! This is just my opinion but I would get small gift cards to Visa/MC, Dunkin Donuts, 7-11, Starbucks, Panera Bread....etc. Bath and Body Works has their anti-bacterial soaps on sale 6 for 20 bucks...plus they give you a 10 dollar off 30 dollar purchase coupon. I would stock up on those soaps and give like 3-4 to each teacher...plus they will wrap it for you!! Dont break the bank...anything you give to them should be appreciated!

I run a daycare out of my home and I think that any amount that you feel is fair is good. I don't expect my parents to do anything for me, but anything that they do is always very nice. I don't usually get a cash bonus as daycare is already expensive people can't really afford to do a lot, but I am usually showerd with gifts from the kids and parents. Honestly I think $50 and $75 is more than enough. I would never expectany of my parents to give me that much after all they still have their own families to buy for.

The Today show focused on this topic today. It was suggested (1) week's pay for nanny's and single daycare providers and $25 per person for multi-daycare providers and they also did stipulate IF you could afford it. If not, a personal letter and homebaked goodies was always a great alternative.
