I was wondering the same thing! Is it just gas or colic?

I think the rule of thumb is crying for more than 3 hours, at least 3 days a week, for more than 3 weeks. Usually it's at a specific time of day. Mine didn't have colic, so maybe someone whose been through it can shed more light.

I know just what you mean, Kimbochi! Omg, here's an embarassing story--the other night I swore Dahlia had colic--she cried for a full hour straight, nonstop. I felt soo bad for her, b/c nothing I did helped! It seemed like she was in pain or something. She even cried when we tried feeding her, very rarely has that ever happened! It wasn't until almost two hours later my husband and I realized although she was sucking, the formula didn't go down at all. THE NIPPLE DIDN'T HAVE A HOLE IN IT!! It was a defective one. So for an entire hour, our poor baby was so hungry and frustrated she was screaming! The embarrassing thing is, I did this to her before! But it didn't take long for me to realize there was a problem with (what I thought was) the bottle (turns out it was the nipple).

But like Shane said, the rule is 3 hours, 3 days or more.

It is hard guessing what your crying baby wants/needs!! I so canot wait til she can more or less tell me!!!

oh yeah, also, have you tried Gripe water yet? I've only tried it a few times, but it mightttt help if the issue is stomach upsets. I bought an organic kind from walgreens that has chamomile, fennel and ginger in it. Dahlia likes taking it, I think she likes the taste. Not sure if it helped or not, I haven't tried enough yet. My pedi recommended we give her gas drops (simethicone) after every feeding (we don't. we only give it probably twice a day, max) for gas. That seems to work most of the time.

Yes my daughters live on Mylicon!

My daughter had colic (and I hope it's now a thing of the past - fingers crossed). Mylicon and gripe water did not work. The only thing that worked was Colic Calm, you have to order it on line - great stuff. Also you can try switching formula (if you formula feed). Three pediatricians recommended Nestle/Gerber Good Start Protect Plus (the green can) it has probiotics in it and helps w/ baby's digestion. I also bought probiotic drops to add to one feeding a day, you get them behind the prescription counter (you don't need a prescription, but they are behind the counter because they need to be refrigerated). colic can come in many different forms...It generally pops up between 6-8 weeks. My daughter never seemed affected by colic. My son would scream everyday from about 3pm to 8pm starting at 7 weeks. My twin boys are now 8 weeks and one has gotten into a super cranky "hold me ALL the time" mood... If they arent suffering from extreme colic (crying nonstop) most babies WILL hit a period of fussy/cranky time around 6-8 weeks. It is a rough time but generally last a few weeks. Then the cloud begins to lift and everyday gets easier!! Good luck!
