Feeding your infant and ensuring they are getting enough nutrition is one of the most important aspects of parenting during that first year. This community is dedicated to those who are nurturing a baby, whether breastfed or formula-fed.
Good luck to you, too! Someone has to know what to do...
My daughter had reflux, so she was in much pain when she would go down to sleep. (Until we found out and got her meds) She would sleep with me on my chest every night for the first 2 months. Once we got her meds in check she was sooo much better and would go to sleep and sleep in her crib all the way through the night! We were very lucky. When I went back to work after 3 months i started the night shift so i could take care of her during the days. Well it began to be an issue to get some sleep, so I put her in bed with me for naps. It started to be an issue at night, but her dad puts her to bed now after I leave for work and he has his own routine with her, it works well.... He gives her a bath and a bottle, reads her a story, then puts her in her crib. It works for us, although she still wants to nap with me in the day, it works for us right now. I never was fond of "letting them cry" I would go 5 minutes and then I could not stand to here her get that upset, I just do not think it is good for them, again everyone is different. Maybe you can try a different routine, or let your husband tend to her at night??? It may work. It is not easy, but trying the same thing every night does help. My daughter is 10 months old now and getting more independant every month, she really does not want to be in our bed much at all anymore....Good luck, I sure hope it works out for you!
I am sure the victory is short-lived, as since I have this terrible cold, she is inevitably next and I am sure she'll have a few bad nights trying to sleep upright in her bouncy seat in order to breathe. (I hate when babies get colds. My eldest only had one when she was almost four months old and I insanely thought she was going to die. Took her to the ER and they said..."uh, she has a cold..." Brilliant on my part, really.) I doubt I'll be any better with Ellorie and will bug her ped. to death.
I guess until I know that she is used to sleeping in the crib, I'll still be sleeping verrrrry lightly.
Let's see how long she can sleep! So far we have a record in the crib of 3+ hours. I guess it can only get better. (Though, I am notorious for jinxing things by saying how great things are status quo and the moment I say it outloud, it all goes rather sideways and I end up feeling completely ridiculous.)
Now for some Sudafed and a light sleep for me. (Crossed fingers)!
Best wishes!
Be careful when cutting back on naps or trying to keep baby up so they'll sleep more. More often than not, this backfires. An overtired/overstimulated baby is an anxious baby, and as you when you are anxious, that does not always equal sleep but just the opposite. You may need to get your baby up an hour earlier in the morning and start your schedule from there. Just a thought...hope I'm not overstepping.
Oh believe me you, I am not trying to keep her awake. I wish she'd take a longer nap during the day so I can take a breather..or spend a bit of time with our oldest daughter. She takes these ridiculous spurt naps. 20 minutes, 30 minutes. Then back awake again. And I know what you mean about overtired and jittery...Ellorie is AWFUL when she is like that...which is just about every night these days at 9pm. She makes this constant noise like a motorcycle revving up and pulls at her face at that point of insane tiredness. Slowly, very slowly she is getting the hang of it. She went to sleep at 9 tonight and with the exception of a few wake up cries (I thankfully got her back to sleep) and it's now almost 12:30...(why the heck I am awake, I cannot tell you). I probably just jinxed it by typing that. Oh well. I'm just hoping if I am vigilant about putting her in the crib for naptime AND sleeptime, she'll get the idea that sleep belongs there. Ha. Or, I'll give up and just get in the crib with her. I'll do anything at this point.
I think I'm going to try to sleep. And you know the moment I drift off...well, I'm not even going to type it...sigh...
