I had my daughter in April last year and didnt get my first real period until Feb of this year. So I was one of those people that took almost a year to get it back.. i bottle fed and breastfed for 3 months and bottle fed the rest of the time. my next one I plan to bf for atleast a year.

at about three months, I bf for the first 2 and she was on the bottle from then on in....so I was bottle feeding when I got my visitor.

I have cramps like my uterus is still going back to shape so I called my doctor and the nurse said the uterus is back down after about 6 weeks so it's my period about to start. I've been cramping on and off everyday for a week and still nothing and been feeling some cramps randomly since dd was born. I 100% breastfeed so I wasn't sure.

well - not to be the weird one here - but is there a chance you are pregnant. The cramping could be a period, or could be implantation if you have been active. Breastfeeding does not 100% protect you from a new pregnancy! I supplemented and breastfed for 3 months and it wasn't until I quit breastfeeding altogether that my period came. Took two weeks from the last time I BF before it showed up.

My son was born in April 2009. I exclussively pump and had one period in January and then one in March... waiting to see if it is "back to normal" or just an every other month thing.

I excusively bf for 4.5 months then introduced solids... af started at about 6 months...

Let me first say that I have PCOS so this may make my answer different from yours. I breastfed until my baby was 6 months old. Once she hit that milestone I stopped feeding/pumping. It took about 60 days for me to get my period after that.

Also, I did have some of the similar feelings that you're explaining, while I was breastfeeding and my doc said that it was because I had poor production so my period was kinda "trying" to start, but everytime I would have a successful feeding/pumping session then my body would go back to no-period mode. Once I stopped all together, the cramping stopped and I had a period.

I have PSOS also, BF exclusively till 8mths and then weaned with bottle and BF for another 1.5 mths. No Aunt Flo yet...

I am doing a combination of bottle feeding and Breast feeding (mostly bottle); I am awful at the pumping stuff and it's been 10 weeks and no AF. I have had no cramping, no spotting, nothing...

My Mom says to expect a big one when it comes; what has been everyone's experience?

This is a good post. I am due with #3 in a week. I think my period returned around 8wks with my 1st (he refused to nurse so he was bottle fed) but I nursed my 2nd for 19 mos and I can't remember anything about aunt flo (it's been a while, he's almost 7!)
I hope that breast feeding will be successful with this little guy, and if I can go 6 months with no period... bonus!

8 months after my daughter was born I got my first period...and it was awful but they have improved:) I BF for 6months but she had cereal and baby food after 4months...I pumped a lot too and supplemented with formula towards the end of the 5month mark.

I had my daughter in June and started my first period in January, so six months. I breastfed exclusively until she was 4 months and she's 9 months now and I'm still nursing.
