Just curious what birth control you used after the birth of your little one. I talked with my physician about using Mirena. He suposedly ordered it today and has plans to put it in at my 6 week check. 2 weeks away. I was okay with it until I got home this evening and started thinking about the risks. Should I have told him Paraguard instead? Paraguard has no hormone in it and is a 10 yr birth control. Mirena uses the hormone progestern and is a 5 yr birth control. I am exclusively Breastfeeding lo too. I am so worried I am making a bad choice! Yikes

You can definitely call and ask your doctor to weigh the pros and cons with you...I am taking Nora-B which is just progesterone. They said it was one of the better ones for breastfeeding (and I found it to cause no problems). I plan to TTC again sometime soon though so I didn't do much research on the long term BCs. I would just call your doc for a chat to help ease your mind!

Because Mirena is hormonal, it can also help irregular or painful periods. I think a side effect of Paraguard may be more cramping, but I am not sure.

I ended up with tubal ligation since I am already 43, and have two beautiful girls.

You doctor should be able to give you info/pamphlets showing the pros and cons of each IUD. I think both IUDs are fine to use while breastfeeding.

im not too fond of all this new kind of contreception .. ive been sticking to the pills and i am currently taking sprintec ..my body is still adjusting but i hate the feeling i get when i take it

I got Mirena when it was my 6 week check up and my daughter is now 2.5. I nursed until she was 10 months! Does not effect baby in anyways! Never once had a problem with it. No cramps, period is very very light, to the point I only have to wear a line! The first 2 months I had spotting but after that.. Great! Some women never get their periods!
Mirena is also used on ladies who have heavy painful periods as it makes your period very light or gone all together. I have never heard of Paraguard.. I live in Canada and Mirena is the one they use. I have several friends, including 4 RNs I work with, all have Mirena! Best birth control as you never need to remember to take a pill..

I use paraguard. It's the only thing I can use. I had a life threatening event using hormones. I can no longer take or use anything with hormones. You should be able to change it to paraguard.
