So I bought seasons one and two of the old Sesame Street on DVD.
Can I just say that they are FANTASTIC?
Sadly, the newer 'politically correct' Sesame Street of today is wretched in comparison.
And the oldies actually do have a warning on them in the beginning that the DVD set is for adults and that the episodes may not suit the needs of today's preschooler.
Seriously?

I saw the ad for the Electric Company on the Sesame Street DVD. I have to get that one, too. Thank goodness for the oldies.

Apparently there are problems with Cookie Monster--who happens to be my favorite character of all time--because he gorges himself on cookies...chocolate chip ones, at that. If you catch an episode of today's version of Cookie Monster, he gives the letter of the day on a SINGULAR cookie...an oatmeal one.
His name is COOKIE MONSTER for the love of heaven. It isn't as if society is obese because they grew up emulating Cookie Monster and his gluttonous ways.
There are also problems with the sketches and that they aren't 'sensitive' to the needs of all children. Oscar the Grouch apparently was too abrasive for the likes of today's sensitive children.
He's a fu*&ing grouch! His name isn't Oscar the Sunshine Optimist.
There is a sketch on season one's DVD, that I find particularly hilarious, that would never happen on today's sensitive Sesame Street. It's a little commercial-type sketch thing with a bunch of muppet television executives sitting around a table. The concept is that they are trying to come up with the name of the show (before it was dubbed Sesame Street). The camera pans to one muppet smoking a cigarette, and with a Clint Eastwood / Milton Berle combo voice, he says, "This show is for kids who don't know how read or write? Then we'll call it "Hey Stupid!"
I laughed my head off.
These days we get Elmo's simpering and that god-awful Baby Bear character that has an awful speech impediment. If I ever meet him on the street, (Sesame or otherwise) I am going to punch him square in the nose.
Maybe I need some sensitivity training.

He was my favorite as well.
"I'll NEVER Get it NEVER!!!" Then slams his head down on the piano.
BTW, cookie monster is awesome. This is along the lines of the drive to present a slimmer Santa. Which reminds me... we went to a Christmas party and the Santa there read "The night before Christmas" to the kids. After the part: "The stump of a pipe he help tight in his teeth and the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath." he said "Kids, I haven't smoked in years." LOL
It WAS Morgan Freeman! Hilarious.
I have seen the 'Zoom' of today and it is so awful that it makes me want to hurt myself. ugh.
