I think its prob normal. My 5 year old says the same thing about a boy she likes in class, but she says she's going to marry him. She says it about a girl in her class too without any mention of marriage. SO I think its still different in her mind, but its also hard for them to distinguish the feelings verbally.

I think it's probably just admiration of the curly hair. I have boys, but I spend a lot of time in my 1st graders class and it seems like it is normal for little girls to ba all ga-ga over teenage girls and I know a lot of little girls that think the pretty teachers are the best people in the world even when they don't know the teacher. Personally, I think you should remind your daughter that the outsides don't matter as much as the insides. Little girls get such mixed messages they need to be reminded that it's great to be smart & good at sports & nice, caring people.

I think fascination plays such a role early, as does their learned behaviors, that you can't really centralize their feelings at that young of an age. It's actually kind of comical at times!
My 5YO daughter comes home weekly with stories of how this kid is her BF & when I ask 'What happened to so-and-so? I thought he was your BF?' she replies 'Oh, well we're not BF & GF anymore, but we decided to still be good friends. Cracks me up!

Kids are in such a rush to grow up, to prove themselves in school, society, etc. that I believe it's natural for them to be ahead of the curve compared to us, yet still in the infancy stages of understanding. So much more information readily available to them that they talk so much of what they don't know.
Some things you just gotta take worth a grain of salt and have faith in how you've raised them.

i see it as this.....she is seeing everything and er choice of words, expressions, ect through a child....you are hearing them through an adults perspectus.....she is 6....she wont know anything about gay, lesbian, being in love, its all roll play from things they see from others, tv, books ect.....i think it is true what someone else has said....she looks up to her teacher....looks up to the older girls....after all she knows that one day she will grow up like them, and perhaps wants to be like them rather than love them!!! try not to make an issue about it....she simply playing and has found some good female role models by the sounds of things.

Could be just her way of trying to express that she really really likes something, and the next level she knows is love. Or it could be that she thinks being "in love" is cool and she feels safe being in love with these two people since she doesn't really know what it is. My 5 1/2 year old will try out excessive adjectives a lot. Something is gorgeous or horrid. Truly, I wouldn't worry about it as long as you feel she is safe.

My daughter is almost 6, and she loves everything and everyone lol. I think what happens is the way we most frequently express our feelings towards our children is by telling them that we love them, so they don't see any negative connotation to loving another girl, they love us and we love them. So of course when they meet other women/ girls who they like, or respect, they "love" them too. Totally normal at this age.
