What you're describing is quite normal and on par with this development stage. Their brains are lacking the maturity at this point to calm down and deal with their over stimulating and overwhelming emotions. The reason why kids tend to "act differently at home vs school" is because they're finally able to be themselves at home is because they've been stimulated all day long and all the emotions they couldn't deal with all day long finally finds relief.
I found an after school nap and consistent routines helped a lot.
Hope you find the balance you seek
