Be aware that many many people have these symptoms.
The problem when we tell ourselves to relax is merely the opposite because our own mind knows that we are trying to trick ourselves. We know we have a panic attack, and then we attempt to tell our mind to relax which is the exact opposite of how we feel. I think then our brains say: Whoa, what are you doing? I am having a panic attack and you are telling me to relax? Nope, does not work.
Fully telling yourself that you are in the middle of a panic attack helps. Fully accepting that what you are feeling is a panic attack helps. And sometimes you have to tell yourself thousands of times: I am having this attack now, this is how it feels, not so good, and then tell yourself over and over that you are not trying to go to war with your mind over this, but that you are just there, surfing out the highs and lows.
Ah, heck, it sounds a lot better than it really is I guess.
