Panic Attacks Support Group
A panic attack is a period of intense fear or discomfort, typically with an abrupt onset and usually lasting no more than thirty minutes. Symptoms include trembling, shortness of breath, heart palpitations, sweating, nausea, dizziness, hyperventilation, and sensations of choking or smothering. Panic attacks can be very sudden, appear to be unprovoked, and are often...
I have missed work due to anxiety and panic as well. One thing I learned early on was that you have to power through the anxiety and panic in order to stop it. I would white knuckle it to work every day. And when I got to work I would have to run to the bathroom because of IBS. Eventually, I learned that nothing bad was going to happen during the commute so I started to have less and less anxiety during it.
My panic attacks would last about 20 minutes and I would have several a day. Between attacks I had bad anxiety. I wonder if what you are experiencing is generalized anxiety or actual panic attacks. If they are panic attacks and lasting that long I would recommend that you try some meds that will keep you stable all day. I took Paxil and it worked for me. Others are on Celexa and Xanax. There are lots of meds you can take. You may not have to take them forever. Just long enough to get your life back on track.
I do hope you feel better soon.
Take care
I have been at my current job for 2 1/2 months and have already called out 7 times, most recently Monday and Today. I'm terrified that I am going to get fired (assuming I can go in tomorrow). I have anxiety all day long, and have frequent minor panic attacks throughout the day called Limited Symptom Attacks. I am currently on Paxil, Xanax and Tofranil.

i just pray I can make it through the year without taking too much time- i have already been reprimanded because of it. I am lucky to work somewhere they do have SOME sort of coverage for those who have medical issues.
Unfortunately, people on the outside don't see panic as a "medical issue", because they don;t feel the pain we do.
Always- thank you for sharing and I wish you all the best- and all you can do is your best when it comes to panic. It is an illness. I wish more people would recognize it.
i wish you the best- and don;t forget your meds! :)
I didn't get a message, but thank you so much for sharing. Not being able to leave home is actually what I want to do. I want to give up- but I can't because I have a child and a house that I have to pay for and bills up the wazoo.....
I want to crawl in bed and never get out. My anxiety leads to isolating myself, making excuses not to join in activities that made me happy once. Making excuses to friends ("oh I'm just not feeling well"). If I had my way I would sleep forever. That's where my anxiety leads to major depression. i found myself in this situation this past week because we had a week out of work for the holiday and I was sick the whole time. It was my dream come true- not have to work and have an excuse to sleep all the time. But it was so hard to come out of the depression- when I went back to work I had a bad episode.
Thank you Hope- it is comforting knowing I am not alone. I hope things get better to you and you seek the help you need from doctors. Hugs.
I wonder whether dietary changes would help for you too? I know that I can't manage coffee or skipping meals makes me worse.
There are seasons for everything.. and I find exercise, magnesium powder or tablets and support like online and a counsellor makes a difference. Check out www.smilingmind.com.au also.
In other words, I had to suck it up. I am not telling you to do the same, but that was the only option I had.
