A panic attack is a period of intense fear or discomfort, typically with an abrupt onset and usually lasting no more than thirty minutes. Symptoms include trembling, shortness of breath, heart palpitations, sweating, nausea, dizziness, hyperventilation, and sensations of choking or smothering. Panic attacks can be very sudden, appear to be unprovoked, and are often...
On several occasions, I broke the .5mg tablet in HALF, and also got a calming effect. I did NOT take this med long term, probably less than 10 times TOTAL, as it is very addictive.
if it makes you lethargic then the dose is too high
I want to add that no other medication worked for me, including SSRI antidepressants, so that is also why I am so grateful for Klonopin. But I know it is not for everyone.
I am not experiencing extreme lethargy or any other side effects.

I have been taking Klonopin for 4 years now and I totally agree that it is better for the long term treatment of panic attacks. My dosage has varied depending on the severity of my attacks, but I have taken as much as 2 mg's per day (3 doses a day). Xanax gives me bad headaches and nightmares so I am glad the doctor put me on Klonopin. Have you tried Depakote? It is used for seizures mostly, but has been shown to be very effective in treating panic disorder-It has really worked for me. Good luck to you!
It is very addictive. But I think the addiction is more mental than physical. Because I wanted to see if I could ever not take it and I was scared to death of withdrawl symptoms but one night I decided not to take it and I was fine. So then I decided not to take it the next night and next night until it ended up being a week or so and I was fine. No withdrawl symptoms that I'm aware of. But I have gone back to it because I have been more anxious at night lately. But all in all I think it is a good med but I don't know anything about xanax from personal experience.
My panic attacks were so intense that I would not leave the house in fear of having one in public. Since I started the Klonopin, I have gotten my life back. It has almost completely removed the panic from my life. It does not make me sleepy or lethargic. However, if I take one then lay back down I do sleep very well.
Hope this helps! I would recommend Klonopin over Xanax as it lasts much longer.
Take Care!
