Panic Attacks Support Group
A panic attack is a period of intense fear or discomfort, typically with an abrupt onset and usually lasting no more than thirty minutes. Symptoms include trembling, shortness of breath, heart palpitations, sweating, nausea, dizziness, hyperventilation, and sensations of choking or smothering. Panic attacks can be very sudden, appear to be unprovoked, and are often...
As uncomfortable as it is, I needed to practice breathing, improve my diet, talk to people about what i was feeling and work with a cognitive-behavioral therapist to understand what my triggers were and what panic really is.
I can relate!
Even the worst anxiety passes. Yes, there are acute phases that come and go. Although they seem to come out of the blue, panic attacks are caused by something that is stressing me -- internally or externally.
It helped me a lot to understand what my stressors are and work to deal with them directly.
Best of luck!
Did you ever have your doseage of required medication ( i take Klonopin) suddenly shoot way up? This is really what is scaring me. What worked before suddenly just stopped working and shot way, way up and my mind is getting carried away with itself, like what if it keeps going up and up and up?
I would go see my doctor, I never take more than the required dose especially because a lot of this stuff is so addictive. See your doctor, discuss what's going on and go from there.
As for anxiety going up and down, mine always does, it depends on weather, hormones, stress, smells, sounds, light, people, all sorts of things.
I can't do the breathing thing, if I pay attention to my breathing I hyperventilate, always have. Very annoying.
So what I do is some form of exercise. I have a treadmill that I can go on, or I go for walks, or I simply move up and down, whatever helps to get that extra adrenaline out of my system.
I agree with the diet suggestion too, too much caffeine and sugar seem to be triggers for anxiety. Smoking is bad too
It a normal fear that, in brains like ours, can get all twisted out of shape.
How did your previous surgeries and recovery go?
I honesly don't see why I should be nerveous about it. You'd think I would be a 'pro' at this by now.
I just don't get what made me turn all topsy turby like this. And, to make matters worse I can't exercise right now which is something I really depended on to burn off the adrenaline in the past.
There was a period where my back was bad after a dislocated shoulder in a skiing injury. I remember walking around midtown in crowds -- I thought i had gotten better about crowds, but I suddenly felt so helpless because i was in pain after walking a block. After two blocks I was in pain and sweating from my forehead, grimacing. It was such a hopeless feeling!
