Panic Attacks Support Group
A panic attack is a period of intense fear or discomfort, typically with an abrupt onset and usually lasting no more than thirty minutes. Symptoms include trembling, shortness of breath, heart palpitations, sweating, nausea, dizziness, hyperventilation, and sensations of choking or smothering. Panic attacks can be very sudden, appear to be unprovoked, and are often...
I can relate to feeling different from others, and have felt that way all my life - it doesn't all have to do (in my case) with my panic disorder, but having panic attacks doesn't help! I have learned to sort of "live around" this feeling, and have managed to have a few close friends - I think even individuals like ourselves who feel rather "alien" can find some person or persons whom we can relate to - but I know it is hard to find people like this. But you do have your boyfriend, so that is a positive in your life -
I can relate to your feeling like a prisoner of your mind - I tend to worry and feel anxious a lot - As I have experienced it, I tend to have "meltdowns" about situations in my life, and after I rant and rave and spew out my feelings, I can get to a place of reconciliation with the situation - at first I tried to calm myself down, and not express the feelings of anxiety, but I didn't find this helpful - it felt phony, given how I was feeling. My husband is usually the recipient of the "meltdown" rants, and I feel badly about this, but I am grateful to have someone in my life who will listen, even if he has no suggestions about overcoming the anxiety (and i don't really expect him to.)
The thing that has helped me the most is prayer and meditation, and releasing my anxiety or the problem which is causing the anxiety to God - basically, giving up control of the situations that make me anxious, because I can't change these situations, so I release them to God, Who can either change the situation or help me through it. I also have observed that almost all of the situations which have made me anxious have turned out OK - so I am realizing that I am making myself crazy for nothing - and even the situations that have come to pass in the way I was fearing were not as bad as I had thought they would be, and I was able to get through them -
I hope what I have written here has been helpful to some degree, and that you know you're not alone -
All the best, Janet
I am glad you left a job that was harming your mental health. I hope your new job turns out to be better and you are able to enjoy going to work(as much as anyone can enjoy working). I hope that you are able to earn enough money. I find lack of money and bills is the worst cause of stress in the world. Just think of how easy life would be if we did not owe each other anything we could just have what we need.
I hope one day you are able to continue your education and move in with your boyfriend.
Take Care :)
