It's been a long time since you posted your query. I must tell you that perhaps the Valium hypothesis is correct. I have suffered 20 episodes of AP over the last 18 years, developed an intra-ductal cyst, and been diagnosed CP. Being an occasional user of Valium, I discovered that my last crisis was absolutely resolved after taking 5mg of diazepam. I did not even go to the hospital, as the episode finished three hours later. After that, I take one 2,5 mg pill on a daily basis and it has been almost three years without visiting the emergency room. Only a few times, when I felt the prodrome of an attack I took 5 mg, and repeat it the next day twice. I also use an intestinal motility helper (Cidine; Cinitaprida 1 mg) for a couple of days. The crisis has never appeared ever since. I contacted the authors of the study, informing them that my experience could be a confirmation of their hypothesis in humans, but never receive an answer. Hope it helps.
