diagnosed with CP dec2011 after an Eus was done at univ. of AL Birmingham Medical Ctr. My systoms where slight ache sometimes after eating in upper right area (where my GB used to be 30 years ago) was told to eat a low fat diet didn't know what CP was until I got home and did research called Dr at UAB for a follow-up appt
Met with Dr. Wilcox (specialist on CP) at UAB ON 01-23 was told EUS showed by bile duct was not as smooth as it should be as well as the surface of my pancreas also color of pancreas was not as bright as it should be, no calcification or other abnormalaties. Stated due to my lack of systoms, no pain, nausea, or, absorption problems, he did not want to do a biopsy, to positively confirm CP as it could do more harm than good. told me to go "live my life" eat a healthy diet (no restrictions) and I shouldn't damage my pancreas any futher unless I start drinking and or smoking. I've never smoked and don't drink. No idea what caused minor damage I have and probably never will. He didn't think minor ache in my side was caused by my pancreas. I don't need to see him again unless I start having pain or more systoms. Is this too good to be true or should I continue to consult other doctors? He is the 3rd one I've seen (from my research he's one of the best Gi's in the us) i felt very confident with him, but everyone on here has so much more experience with this condition and doctors. I would love to hear what you think. Thank-you I continue to pray for pain free days for all of you

My advice would be to follow your doc's advice and be at peace. Sounds like you have done a good job of researching your GI and should continue to feel confidence in your work. Also sounds like he will be there if you have further symptoms and that is great. It has taken me almost four years to find doctors I don't fear, eventhough my first GI my Internist called the "guru of gastroenterology". My CP is rooted in a congenital defect of my pancreas but doctors poking around in there certainly caused by far the greatest damage. And, if I had let the second GI and his surgeon have their way, I would be missing part of my pancreas for no good reason and probably have more pain than I do now. It's great to hear of someone who has the CP diagnosis and doesn't hurt all the time. If you start to have any symptoms, go see the GI and then make sure the benefits far outweigh the risks of anything proposed. ERCPs can cause a great deal of irreversible damage. May you never have to think about your pancreas again. Thanks for sharing your good news!

Thanks twoduct, I've followed your posts on here and really value your advice. i've gone back to a regular diet still keeping the fat low as this just seems to be healthy anyway. I have found you have to stay on top of this condition(do your research) as you know. most docs don't know very much about this condition. I feel very blessed considering what all of you are going through. I will continue to follow and pray for this group and to see how everyone is doing. Again Thank-you I continue to pray for pain free days for all of you
