Thank you for this! I am currently withdrawing from Prozac. Anti depressants really help my stomach but I have tried 4 now and they all cause severe vertigo, which then worsens when I try to wean off of them! I will ask my doctor about Sam-E.

keep in mind... when u are weening off of antideprsants, your body is not used to making its own triptophan (spelling) therefore eat eggs.... they have it! ( triptophan helps the seritonin levels)

Please look up interactions with prescription and herbal medicinces. Important to know about SAM-e... and other natural antidepressant. I bring this up because I saw a psychiatrist after huge trauma 4 yrs ago and needed natural stuff due to drug allergies and previous seratonin shock (from SSRI rx). Sam-e is fine to try UNLESS you are bipolar, then you only try it with a dr's help; at times, it throws people with bipolar disease into manic episodes. Sam-e usually helps with depression within a few days; it is good for those with flat-out depression, NOT good for those with depression and anxiety. It may make anxiety worse. The national hep-C foundation recommends 400 mgs of sam-e twice/day to help with liver support and cleansing. If I take Sam-e regularly, I get headaches. I take 200 mg once/day, in mornings only, or I can't sleep, and I take it only during pms time. My dr recommended 4 months on, then take a break, then back on if it was working. 5-htp works better for depression with anxiety and my dr recommended up to 100 mg up to 3x/day for dosage, but I am able to take 50 mg twice/day without getting headaches. St John's Wort can jack up blood pressure, so I don't try it. For SLEEP, I take 500 mg of L-tryptophan (not for children either), at bedtime or 20 minutes before, melatonin at least one hr before bed (not for children except overnight, otherwise their bodies can stop making it); and 5-htp, @50-100 mg, @40 minutes before bed. Any other sleep ideas? Georgia
