Reglan...

I learned about that one...the hard way. I took it for about 6 months 5 years ago. I've been off it for 4 years and still have the side effects...which mirror the symptoms of Parkinson's diseases. Fortunately, with the use of Mirapex, they are managed and undetectable but I will have to take it for the rest of my life.

It's called tardive dyskinesia...uncontrolled, spastic movements of the extremeties, especially the legs and especially when lying down (it's very similar to RLS).

Definitely stay away from that stuff. Why it's still on the market is beyond me. The FDA should have yanked it long ago.

So sorry to hear about that. Seems to me that the drug companies and doctors should be held accountable. Have you thought of suing? At the very lease, they should pay for the Mirapex for your life! Grrr.

Yes, I have also heard of that problem with the drug my GI wanted me to try it but he said I would have to sign a release first because of the side effects, how scary!

When I got that I couldnt sit/lie still....I felt like i wanted to jump out of my skin after it being given intravenously. I realized she pushe dthe medication too fast....she should have taken 2 mins to inject the dose....that is why you can get a high rate of that tardive dyskinesia symptoms. No potent drugs should be pushed fast when
given intravenously.

Sigh...the side effects are PERMANENT. WTH is that drug still on the market??

I should buy stock in Mirapex...

good to know ... thank you so very much for sharing...is there any other drug we should know about? I do believe that other anti nausea drugs, besides zophran, have some bad side effects as well.

For stomach acid I was taking famotodine twice a day but now I am taking Dexilant and it helps so much more. And for antinausea I take Phenergan....Zofran IV when I am in the hospital but when that doesnt work they switch me to Phenergan, which makes me sleepy but def helps the N/V.

I take Omeprozole right now but find it hard to swallow and doesn't seem to work as well as Protonix (generic brand) so I'm switching back.

For bad bouts, I also take Phenergan. In the hospital they used to give me Phenergan but it's hard on the veins and mine always blow so they use Zofran. Both work well for me for the most part. Sometimes I get so nauseous they won't work at all but for medium to light nausea, they're good.

My nausea was so bad I took Reglan when I was in the hospital for severe acute pancreatitis then my sister told me that her doctor for a different situation told her he would not prescribe Reglan because of the side effects. I asked my GI hospitalist about it and he said that he wouldn't recommend it for an extended period of time, whatever that means. I was on it for about a month, and to be honest it never made a dent in my nausea but to be fair neither did the Zofran at the time, it was extremely severe I just had to get through the nausea at times. In my opinion the medication didn't do anything and in hindsight I would refuse to take it, but I was never told of the risks when I was first prescribed the medication, they just give it to you in the hospital.

I'm simply amazed this drug is still being prescribed byany doctor with a lick of sense, the side effects are severe, life long and well documented so why is the drug even still available to begin with? I suppose if the drug company wants to pony up enough money to keep it in the pipeline they can, just seems almost criminal to continue to have folks coming down with such problems and the drug still o the market. My wife freaked a couple of years ago when I was in hospital and the doctors tried to give it to me, she put a stop to it before it got started and asked them to please provide something less lethal and just as effective, I think it was zophran or something like that. If prescribed simply refuse to take it folks the risks are simply too great to ignore, Be well and pain free........

Zofran no longer works for me. During my last attack 6 weeks ago, which once again landed me in ICU, I could not stop vomiting. I was given 3 doses in the ER and once more once I got to ICU. Still, I kept throwing up. At that point, I was given 2 doses of Phenergan within an hour and one more 2 hours later.

At last...it stopped.

I now have an open prescription for Phenergan. It works well for me. As soon as I start feeling nauseated, I take one. It does make me sleepy but it's better than those vomiting sessions. Ugh.

There is a class action lawsuit against the makers of Reglan.

OMG how awful..These are horror stories...I am glad I read about this. Hope everyone gets some kind of relief..Thank you for sharing your stories..
