Chronic pancreatitis can present as episodes of acute inflammation in a previously injured pancreas, or as chronic damage with persistent pain or malabsorption. Patients with chronic pancreatitis can present with persistent abdominal pain or steatorrhea, as well as severe nausea. Some patients with chronic pancreatitis often look very sick, while others don't appear to be...
So four years later I still suffer...good luck & decided what works best for you. If you decide to add more fat do so a little at a time. You are only human and of course you are going to want that ice cream or steak or whatever it is you crave. But do so in moderation. Good luck.
thanks for your response. I'm sorry to hear things didn't work out for you.
Have you been hospitalized often after your first attack and how do you suffer? I suppose I could go back and read all your posts.
How long did you feel well before you started to feel bad again, and do you think it was because of your diet?
I can't say I'm really suffering at all now. Every once in a while I get a little pinch in the right side, and the left also, but nothing that I need to take medication for. I feel relatively normal right now and staying on around 50 grams or less of fat/day.
The only time I felt bad was just before I left for England I had lots of samples at Costco, and too many sweets.
Another question...after your doctor said you should be fine, did they ever do a cat scan or any test and did they say your pancreas was no longer inflammed?
How does one really know if they are better?
I went to the hospital last May after eating a bite of my grandsons birthday cake..and I contracted a horrific infection known as c-diff which we haven't be able to get rid.. I can only eat 5-7 grams of fat at each meal sometimes that is to much..
Right now 8 grams of fat a day is so much it will send me over the edge...
I start TPN today to give my colon & pancreas a rest for a while. Every time I eat it goes right through me & I am so tired & weak, but I know this will pick me up again..
I know I am feeling better when I am not running to the bathroom 10-20 times a day and I have a little more energy..
I don't know about anyone else..it seems like everyone is different..
I also started with an acute attack and never really got better. I kept going to the drs and they kept running tests, and I kept losing weight. After a opulent of GI docs and 2 ERCP, they finally found the CP with an EUS I also stay very low fat, below 20 GMs/day unless I'm having an "episode" then I try to stay below 10, otherwise I have a lot of pain & nausea. You may be lucky & never have another episode, I hope so.
Take care,
GG

Then yesterday out of nowhere I felt a stabbing pain. then another. Then a few minutes passed and another. The pains or pinches that some people have described were coming on and off for about 2 hours. Scared the heck out of me. Almost feels like a poke. I also had a dull headache all day. So I know I am not out of the woods yet. I eat about 50 grams a day and try not to have more than 10 - 12 grams a meal. Since I have been feeling pretty good for the most part, I'm not even really counting, but I kinda know what I can and can't eat....Maybe I should start writing it down. I hate this stupid diet.
My daughter wanted to take me to someplace, but one of the things you do there is eat special kinds of foods. Why would I even want to go there and torture myself. But I guess I have to learn to enjoy a new place, even if the main event is the food.
In such a short time my cousin has non-hodgkins lymphoma , friends husband has Esophageal cancer, others have a brain tumer. I keep telling myself that we all end up with something. Maybe this will be my something. Glad I found a place where I can share my thoughts and comments and be understood.
I think sometimes people don't realize how sick you 'COULD BE' if you eat the wrong things so they think you don't really suffer. Its amazing how people no nothing about the pancreas (as I did also)
but oddly enough they said dieting can trigger gall bladder attacks. in fact it will happen with anorexia.
and I was dieting when this AP attack started. but went on for ages
they rule is once u have had an attack. to not ever drink again. it will lessen your life by 5 years. grim. take your choice.
I don't drink . or smoke. have done my Achilles !! I am trying to maintain my correct weight. but we eat healthy -
I have had 3 attacks in 4 years. but this last one had me really sick with raised liver.
diet def affects gall bladder attacks. imo. and I think salt and extra seasonings. was something I was doing then.
I don't really know the answer. this is just my opinions and what I was told.
I am so afraid of having another attack and ending up in the hospital. Miss Sophie, what is TPN?
I'm also wondering if the stress from traveling can make things worse. I didn't sleep well at all for two weeks and now having to adjust again to my time zone.
Sunshine - you mention toxins can trigger an attack..What kind of toxins do you mean?
