Got the swollen spleen, and the hot cold thing going on also, for about a year.
My hematologist checked my IgG levels and mine were low..Not sure if it's because of the swollen spleen or if they have been low all my life. But I do know I have had some pretty major infections in the last 10 years..15 or so staph infections, sepsis 3 times, pneumonia at least once a year & several abscesses..
Wow I sure hope Diane, Catlin, and everyone else who has a swollen spleen that you take care with infections..They can do a double whammy, get you sick and the antibiotic to get you well messes with your colon because your immune system is way down..
Take care everyone..Prayers and hugs..
Cheryl
Catlin, since you mention the U of P, I am getting signals that you are somewhere in southeastern PA. If this is so, check out the MCMC (mercy catholic medical center) AKA, Mercy Health System.
http://www.mercyhealth.org/locations/ I think they can offer help even though you have no insurance. They have locations throughout the Philadelphia area. If you are near any of them, call them, or any hospital for that matter, before you need their services so you can see who will help. I drove ambulance in Delaware County for many years and Mercy Health System seemed to be the most helpful with folks without a lot of money. Good luck and God Bless you and I hope you can weather the storm till your Medicare kicks in.
It is so amazing to have found you guys. Our symptoms are so the same! I was puzzling out so many things and was so lost before reading here.
You give me courage and hope. Look up what the spleen does and you might find the answer to the Iga question.
It scares the willies out of me talking about transplant and lowering the immune system because I have had MRSA before. It will come back. I have to heal, I have no choice.
I live in Devon and will look up Mercy Health. My sister wants me to go to Paoli Memorial, but the cost! Norristown is the closest state hospital. Mercy it is. Have only 7 days to go.
I love you guys, karen
Fitzgerald Mercy Hospital, located on Lansdowne Avenue, In Darby Borough is probably the closest Mercy Hospital. "The Fitz" is a pretty good hospital. In my Ambulance days, it was our primary hospital. Any severe trauma was either driven or flown to U of P in Philly. Paoli is a good hospital but not terribly charitable. They are part of the Main Line health system. The Fitz's phone number is (610) 237-4000. I still had that number in my head. I called there about a million times. My Brother had many surgeries there. They saved his life when he went into cardiac arrest in his home. Unfortunately, we lost him to cancer several years ago. Give them a call and explain your situation to them. They can probably help you out until your Medicare kicks in. If you don't drive, take whatever bus goes down route 30 towards Philly, get off at Lansdowne Ave and take the bus to Darby and get off at Fitz. Easy from Paoli. I guess you see that you are in my old stomping ground. I worked at the Paoli train yard guarding the contamination for about a year. No contaminated property was stolen under my watch. LOL.
I know what you mean about this miserable disease. No one really understands it unless you have it. 5 years ago, I rarely ever heard it mentioned and now it is my whole life. I can barely think of anything else. I go for a endoscopy on Thursday and a stress test on Monday. Going to work and medical tests are about all I do anymore. My quality of life is in the toilet. Oh well. Good luck. October will be here in a few minutes. You should call around now and get your doctor appointments in order so when the medicare kicks in, you won't have to wait so long. God Bless and I hope everything works out well. Chris... The LargeDoggy
