Hello to all. I'm brand new to this group--just joined today, but I've been reading the comments for a couple of weeks, and learned a lot!
I've had what they used to call "spastic colon" (now "IBS") for over 30 years.
In January I developed acute diverticulitis and was hospitalized. It cleared up quickly--but pancreatitis took its place and I was in the hospital 17 days, most of them on a PIC line for nutrition. For the past month I've been waiting for the pain to go away--and am still waiting.
My latest CAT scan showed the pancreatitis "resolved", and blood tests are back to normal--but my doctor is trying to get a MRCP scheduled and believes me that I still have pain.
I've found a pain diary application for my iPhone (I have fibromyalgia too, so my iPhone is my memory bank). After a week, I'm finding it helpful to track patterns. Since I also have diabetes treated thru diet alone, I keep track of food in a diabetes record.
I can tell that when I eat ANYTHING the pain levels rise; and sitting at the computer brings pain in gut and back. But it's been great to be able to show of pain level patterns to the doctor, and to have info about food available.
Who else has used tools like these, and did you and/or doctors respond to them? And.....how soon did you find your body responding to the food? For example, if I eat and within 15 minutes am running for the bathroom, is it likely to be what I ate several hours ago, or a response to the food just swallowed?

When I went to the doctor mentioned knowing from research online and from support groups that some people show "clean" in lab tests and still end up in the hospital a couple times a year with more attacks, she nodded immediately.
And I think your last comment is probably just right....I'd been trying to make it one or the other, but I suspect it's a physical response to whatever I'm eating now.
