Visited with my docs yesterday and they now know I have a mutation in the CFTR gene and pancreas divisium so this is the cause of my pancreatitis. They say I need the tp-iat and I should have it done sooner rather than later so they can harvest good islet cells and avoid the risk of cancer. I go to OSU and love them there. They just recently started doing the tp-iat and I was wondering if anyone here has had it done at OSU and if they did what they thought about it? My other choice would be Minnesota but that is 11 hours away.
Those who have had it done, how long did it take before you could go back to work? I am 43 and otherwise healthy so they say my risk for complications are lower than normal.
Those who have had this surgery, are you glad you went through with it?
What sort of problems do you have now? What about long term, can anyone give me an answer as to how they feel years down the road? Any advice from those who have had this surgery would be appreciated so much.
Other than pancreatitis I am healthy, but I am having pancreatitis about every three weeks now. Sometimes in between attacks I will have really good days and sometimes in between attacks I will be achy, sore and uncomfortable. Frankly I don't feel I am bad enough to need surgery yet but the doctors say they want to get it done before my pancreas is too damaged.

---make sure you clean your self out pre op and im not talking about 2 day and mag citrate...go lytle is the only thing!!!( or u wll have major blockage issues)
---many ppl on the fb sites are stil having complications...due to...they also had other issues...or they got blockages, infections, etc... from complications, but they all still think it was worth it... there a a few who do not......

Tkiser, your doctor is right that the sooner you get it done, the better your chances of harvesting more islet cells. I can't imagine having acute attacks every 3 weeks! I've only had a few acute attacks (2 I had to go to the hospital) since I was diagnosed. I just have pain on a daily basis and as long as I take pain meds, I'm able to function.
