yes in one of my other replies I had said that when i was in the ER the dr there had given me 10mg of Morphine...when the GI dr came in he yelled at the dr and said you dont give morphine for acute pancreatitis...it causes spasms. I wondered why 10mg Morphine didnt help my pain. But when I gotthe Dilaudid omg was night and day ...the pain went away! I know others on here take morphine and say that it doesnt cause them any problems...but I know for a FACT it did for me!

I concur with Diane...Morphine not good for AP...at all. Dilaudid is the way to go.

As I have posted on other forum discussions for Pain Management my current regimen seems to be working well. I keeps the pain at bay but I still feel some of it but not bad.

Plus I get nervous about becoming addidcted to the Narcotics...but I guess we the sufferers of CP are allowed? Who knows... :)

I had pretty much the same response as Diane which is to say no pain relief what so ever, I asked the ER doc if he was trying to be funny giving me a placebo! He just seemed to get confused and went out to call someone, came back and had dilaudid, which worked great at stopping the pain. I wasn't aware of the spasm issue, which concerns me now that I have my new pain pump as one of the maion chemicals in it is morphine. I do hope that doesn't come back to haunt me, maybe it won't cause the same response since it isn't going the normal route in the body, guess I'll find out! Hope all have a pain free day!

It helped me when I had an AP attack. It was wonderful.

sopbabe...I am very afraid of being addicted as well and I don't take the amount I should....my dr even wanted to put me on a fentanyl patch and I declined it. He said to me you have a chronic disease with lots of pain...don't worry about becoming addicted and if you do so what? I was surprised....he said you are not taking it because you don't have pain you are taking it because YOU DO HAVE PAIN! He said that most that would happen is that my body would tolerate the medicine and then I would need a higher dose. THis I all know since I am a nurse but goes out the window when I am the Patient! lol As I said before I don't do well at this end of the spectrum.....so do as I say not as i do! lol Have a pain free day and take your meds! :))

Yep Diane...I wish I could say that but I can't. It's kind of funny that the only side effects I have . Hot Flashes...constantly!!

However at this point since there is no solid diagnosis as to why I have CP I have to take the risk. The pain in unbearable without it. The patch is 12 mcg...the lowest dose...that is what I agreed to. I also take Nucynta 50mg for "breakthrough" pain. And I do have breakthrough pain so I take one of those every 6 hours.

I hope to someday be able to not take them ever again but not sure for now. Here's to hoping for a miracle!

Not sure if morphine made my ap worse or not because I was given it early on before my levels were high, but I can say within 10 mins of being given it I would get really sick. Severe back pain and I would become so nauseas. So after that happened about 3 times my surgeon came and changed the meds to Dilaudid, and thats what I use now. It works so well, I would be lost without it.
