Hi,
My lipase was a bit elevated (69 when normal is 22-50). I spoke with my colitis gi who is also head of gi at this learning national hospital ( which got bad reviews here for pancreas). Anyway, I was concerned about this elevation. He said in cp we don't use lipase as indicator for what's going on. Only in acute panc. He said the only thing we use is radiological exams. So he is saying to me "stop checking lipase". Thoughts...
Another question: when is damage done to pancreas? I remember Readimg Diane explaining more than year ago that eating doesn't damage pancreas but (hope I remember correctly) the attacks do. My question: I had two three mild attacks last year but having this mild ir early cp, how do I know if i am not having mini attacks as there is mild pain lately.
Please please if anyone can respond to jks and me (post below) about hope and q of life in cp, please do...

They majority of people with CP have normal lipase.
I think the best indicator to see progression of CP is MRCP and EUS, along with fecal fat test.
My ex would get severe cramps, exactly the same area as pancreatitis after she ate fatty foods, that would last for hours. But she always ignored it. I assume it was gall stones because if it was acute pancreatitis, then there's no option but to go to ER for fluids and meds.
just wanted to ask about damage. Would mild pain, like back pain suggest the pancreas is being damaged?
