Help! Ladies, has this happened to you?

Over the years I've gone into pre-menopause but was able to go on estrogen and get back to normal. I haven't had my period since Nov 2010 and was checked again for menopause. My doctor says I'm not in it but doesn't know why my cycles have disappeared. Has anyone else had this problem?

At first, my husband and I still had hopes of getting pregnant. Sadly, now I'm too old and sick for that and too broke and sick to adopt. Pancreatitis is the gift that keeps on giving (said in an ironic tone!). But I still can't help but wonder why my body isn't behaving normally. Any advice would be welcome!

Could it be lack of nutrition? Or maybe the stress. Both of those can mess up your hormones. I had trouble getting pregnant for two years and was about to start fertility pills, I started drinking ensure because I was so thin from working so hard. After I gained some weight, I got pregnant. Just an idea..

I am so sorry to hear that. Sometime when our bodies are stressed we quit menstruating. There are also hormone imbalances which causes amenorrhea. If they find the cause it can be treated, sometimes it is the thyroid the pituitary or hypothalamus all can cause some sort of hormones to go haywire. You need to have your thyroid levels checked & get a prolactin level. very common blood tests...Hope you feel better soon. Good luck.

Ta, Ladies. I've always had irregular cycles but was ok when on birth control for 15 years. I'm off that now. BYW: beware of birth control and how it effects the pancreas! Nuvaring was given to me and it brought on a nasty cycle that I'm still recovering from 1 1/2 years later!

So glad you were able to get pregnant Laural! Sadly, that choice is behind me now since I've been sick so long. Even if we could adopt, which we can't due to $$, I don't have the energy to take care of a child. How do you manage it?

I'll ask my doc about prolactin level - thyroid is usually fine but was off in March. Thank you Miss Sophie! Nibbor

Nibbor: It was years ago that my hormones were messed up from stress and being under weight. My kids are both grown now. I am back to being irregular now, could be this illness, stress or I may be heading toward menopause. As for children, have you thought of foster care? That is a way that you could bless and be blessed by loving a child who is in need. Just an idea.
