So my doc is making me do 48hr stool collection study (awesome), for which I have to eat a diet of 100+ grams of fat /day for 3 days for the test to be accurate.....my God, talk about awful! Anyone on here ever had to do this? I can't believe how backward it all seems....seeking out food that contains fat.....trying not to throw it up......I'm concerned its going to give me an acute attack...

Thank God for pain meds...its just so strange....Im like scarfing down icecream...doctor's orders.....but I feel like that kid whose parents made them smoke 4 cigars and they got really sick or something....can't wait to get back to my fat free greek yogurt and chicken broth...

I already did an elastase test, and the doc thought it was inconclusive for some reason...so he is doing the 48hour study bc he says it is more conclusive. He wants to "definitively" diagnose me with cp before doing an ERCP on me which was scheduled for this week originally...I think he wants to prove I have CP, not linked to SOD at all and just try me on enzymes and see how I do. EUS showed like fibrosis/scar tissue, but normal ducts as far as they could tell...
He is still likely to do the ERCP and do the secretin stim test next week if this doesn't show anything definitive.

I had that test and filled 9 collection pails!
Not fun and it did throw me into an acute attach. I ended up spending 6 weeks in the hospital. I will NEVER do that test again!

whoa that is really scary! yeah I have been in so much more pain with the increase....I doubt I get 100grams in...I am not making myself completely ill over it....seems counter-intuitive

My doc too said that the 48-72 hour fecal collection is more reliable test than the spot test which he says is notoriously unreliable. He did an EUS last week and said the pancreas looks "excellent"; he is not convinced my steatorrhea (sp?) is caused by pancreatic insufficiency but I always test negative for Ciliac/spru disease, and nobody can explain why the high doses of Creon really do help my symptoms-- even though my pancreatic enzymes test as normal. Wondering if I can enjoy some wine again but nervous to try it. I hate this whole thing. So hard to get definite answers.
