Fecal Fat Test - how to get 100g/day

Hi Everyone!

Well the saga of diagnosis of my symptoms continues. Now I have to do a 24 hour fecal fat test, with 3 days at 100g/fat daily before doing the test. Except my problem is that since leaving the hospital last week I have been on a virtually no-fat diet (less than 15g/day) and have felt GREAT! :-) Today I have had 42g and feel awful....all the symptoms (nausea, pain in right side, severe bloating) are back. Does anyone have any suggestions of how to get to 100g/day of fat without eating meat, dairy etc. (I am a vegan). Short of drinking a glass of oil I don't know how I can, and I feel so awful that I don't think I could pull that off...just the thought of oil makes me want to be ill.

Do you like nuts? They are fairly fatty. Must be awful, I eat hardly any fat so can only imagine how much pain it would cause eating 100g. Good luck for the rest of it and the test

Thanks for your thoughts. I don't know how on earth I am going to do this test...I have tried for 2 days with potato chips, greasy stir fries and yes even french fries (thought that was a great idea) and once I hit about 50g I feel as sick as a dog and can't bring myself to eat anything, fatty or not. What a life! In the meantime my girlfriends are SO jealous because of course they would LOVE doctors orders like this. Go figure. Unfortunately nuts aren't an option as I am allergic to most of them.

I am hoping that if I keep trying I will eventually be able to take it higher...but I am just not getting much past 50g.

Another test you could ask for is the stool elastase test which does not require 100g of fat- it lets you know how you pancreas is functioning.
Levels below 200 are consider to be pancreatic insuufficiency. My level was at 400 but most normal levels are between 500-600. With my fecal fat test it was only slightly elevated- I cannot tolerate any more than 35g of fat per day. I still don't have an official dx because all other tests have come back normal.
