Hey all! Hope all that suffer from CP are having an easy day today. Some of you might have seen me post in the past. My wife has suffered from CP for 6 yrs. Stent placements, bad attacks had her in the hospital every 2 month, and had manageable attacks every 2-4 weeks. Then my wife and I realized that it seem to come and go with her menstrual cycle. Ovualation, and menstration. We had mentioned to Dr's that we felt there was a correlation with estrogen or progesterone and our primary Dr. supported us while gastro Dr's were skeptical. John Hopkins was pushing for pre testing for Pancreasectomy but we did not want to do something that drastic knowing that maybe a Hysterectomy would be less evasive. Well, my wife had her surgery in January. She was suffering from hot flashes, and they had her on an estrogen patch to help. It seemed like the day or two before the patch would wear off, my wife would get bad hot flashes, so the dr. prescribed and estrogen pill for a day a week. Well, we found that after she took the pill. She would get Pancreatitis. She was getting minor attacks since the surgery but not real bad ones. The Dr. stopped the pill and suggested that she go off the patch too, and just take the menopausal effects cold turkey. So, that's what she did. Her hot flashes are bad, she doesn't sleep a lot because of it, but you know what? She has not been hospitalized in 6 months. Her attacks have been minor. And, since they took her off estrogen she has not had any pancreatic issues. It's still early but we are starting to have a life again. We actually were able to go away and not worry about attacks. We can actually see a light at the end of the tunnel. Please, if any of you women feel there is a correlation between your cycles. Consider our story. I will try to keep you up to date. They say her hot flashes will be hard for 3 months. but it's a piece of cake compared to Pancreatitis.
