I now have a letter that I got from my primary care doctor that I carry with me in case I have to go to an ER. It says that I have idiopathic pancreatitis and that I am an intelligent human being who knows what she is saying and to please listen to me and they can contact him or my GI specialist if they need to.
I had a super bad experience recently, and some frustrating experiences in the past. I was tired of being told such things as, "you can't be having an attack, you would be in more pain" " your blood work doesn't show anything" " Have you been drinking ." "We don't do ringers in the ER." ( I don't go to the ER first thing usually, unless the pain is immediately over the top, usually I have been fasting for a day or two and know I will need electroliytes, and having been burned (x2) last time with straight potassium piggyback by bad nurse I try to get the ringer with it all mixed in the saline already.
I have had some good experiences in the ER too. I try to educate as I go for the next poor body that shows up in the ER with this enigmatic problem.
It took about 6 years for me to get diagnosed. I thought, great, now I will be understood in the ER, but it's still a crap shoot.
