What do you do when your body cant tolerate the food youre putting in to it?
What do you eat/drink when you feel like crap and need quick calories that are easy to digest?
While I was on TPN the main other source of my nutrition was Ensure Enlive or Boost Breeze (fat free), looking back now I feel that the drinks were making me sicker, not better. I bought case after case of these calorie packed boxes of hfcfs and artificial die and flavors, and spent hundreds of dollars. The Doctors and nutritionist encouraged it. They said You need the calories. I didnt have the energy to cook anything, and my tummy couldnt tolerate food anyway.
What was the first thing Id get to drink after a surgery or being NPO? SODA Why? Because fruit juice irritated my bladder, and just the thought of hospital broth could make me barf.
A light switch in my brain has flipped, and Im not going back. Ive made a conscious effort to pay attention to what Im putting into my body. So as a Crunchy Granola Mountain Girl Im going organic, Non GMO (if it does not say Non GMO it prob has GMOs). Im eating more whole, real foods with the least processing as possible. Ive even started baking my own bread, because then I know whats in it. Best of all Im not having as many pancreatitis flares and Ive actually been able to gain some weight & strength.
I dont mean any offense to you dcockfiels59. This is just my well overdue rant against GMOs, food dies, flavorings, and sweeteners that the FDA say are safe or dont think need to be tested.

I hope you can gain some weight. I'm glad to have found this site... it would have been so helpful back then. I didn't know there were others dealing with the same things as me.
Hang in there. Sending hugs!
I am able to look back on some of the times, and there are multiple, where I have been lucky enough to survive.
All I was doing was trying to provide some info on what I've been through, what you take from it is up to you.
Food- the thing that nourishes us and gives us strength is the very thing that causes our pain.
Everyone is different. What works for someone may not work for someone else. For example if I eat granola I would end up back in the hospital because I also have Ulcerative Colitis. And while granola works for you many granola products contain lots of nuts which have lots of fat.
This site is to help encourage our friends in need not knock them down when they find something that finally works for them. This has been a long road for some and a new beginning for others. We are here to give our input without passing judgment..
I was feeling pretty good about being home from the hospital being able to drink Ensure Enlive & down some egg whites or baby rice cereal. But after reading your post I was starting to feel like I was poisoning my body until I realized hey wait, my husband is a controller for a large produce company and I know what chemicals they put on organic foods...Just because it's organic doesn't mean there aren't things like Sulphur, Rotenone, Nicotine Sulfate, sprayed on vegetables & fruit..Gee the things the industry doesn't tell you...Nothing is truly organic unless you grow it yourself & know you put nothing on it..But good luck with that..
I think I'll go have another Ensure Enlive ....And lets continue to encourage to one another not pick on what they eat or drink...Good luck everyone & if anyone can think of anything else besides mash potatoes, baby cereal & egg whites please let me know. Can't think of anything else bland. Maybe I don't want to...
