If lipase is elevated that means its spilling into your blood stream. Digestive enzymes help with bowels, and help absorb food. Some people need them, others don't until the disease progresses. How were you diagnosed with CP?

Hi thank you for your reply. I had a pancreatis attack I thought I was having a heart attack. They diagnosed me with my blood tests. I was on weekly / fortnightly blood tests. I am now on monthly blood tests. I've had a ultrasound and mri. They haven't found anything unusual on those scans. 2 years ago I had enlarged spleen and fatty liver found on scans. I have gerd too. My stomach hasn't been the same since they removed my gallbladder 10 years ago. I get gas / reflux/ stomach pains/ unusual bowel motions / nausea and sometimes vomiting. I am also lactose intolerant. I also have high cholesterol. I find it hard to digest certain foods. Eg: meats / fats. I am eating more carbs ATM because I can tolerant them. I need meat as I am anaemic and any medications I take makes my stomach worse. It feels like my digestive system shuts down and I feel like my stomach gets pumped up like a balloon. I still take my blood pressure meds / and reflux meds. If I have pain I can take panadol only. I don't know what the gastro doctor will do. Since my gallbladder out doctors have always said ibs. I think that is the I don't know diagnoses. My doctor is saying I definetely have pancreatis. Our family has a few cystic fibrosis members and obviously carriers. Don't know if I am a carrier? Haven't been tested. It is all just so frustrating. I suppose I will feel better once I finally see a gastro doc and the dietician?

Prior to the drs suspecting CP, I had a lot fo gastro issues too. I had a fundoplication for GERD, a very nasty operation that basicallly wraps the upper part of the stomach around the esophogus to prevent acid from filling the esophagus. It actually did help with that issues...but I've also had other stomach issues after that, i.e., bloating, gas, pain, etc. Then I started having what the drs thought was gallbladder attacks. They wanted to take it out, but I had some other issues at the time, so they said to hold off. Then the lipase and amalase started coming back elevated. And the pain became progressively worse. I stopped eating meat early February 2014, although I've added back chicken, no red meat. I've been a severe asthmatic all my life, and I'm starting to wonder if I have the cystic fibrosis gene...which would cause mild issues. My pulmonologist wanted me to go have a sweat test, at the time it didn't seem necessary...but now I wish I had done it...to show it it could be CF. It's all so frustrating.

Ive been and am in your shoes for 5.5 yrs. Ive had several MRI and 7 EUS (this is one of the top tests to dx CP)-ALL CLEAR. However, my labs point to my pancreas-lipase always elevated and CA 19 elevated a bit a few times-no other disease outside of pancreas would cause these two to elevate together. You need an EUS, and it needs to be done by a pancreas specialist.

Have you looked into SOD? It happens after GB removal, and pancreatitis is often associated with it.

Your Gerd is likely due to your pancreas issues. I had severe Gerd for years before I started to have that good old pancreas pain. Now I know it was due to my pancreas being inflamed.

Are you on enzymes?

You can get tested for CF-I have one gene but apparently one isn't enough to be the cause of CP. I think I know my cause of my CP anyway.

How high are your lipase levels normally?

Thanks for your replies. I think I need this EUS? Maybe I have this splinter of oddi? That is causing all my issues. I feel like I have been undiagnosed and fobbed off for a long time. I have a gastro appointment in the city on the 14th August. That's the earliest I could get in.
My lipase and lft levels we're high enough that the pathology rang my doctor straight away and my doctor rang me and told me I need to go to hospital ASAP.
All I know is my doctor keeps telling me my blood tests are not good.

Get copies of your labs and keep them on file, you will need these. Yes, you def need an EUS
