Cholesterol lowering medication and pancreatis

Hello I am wondering if anybody has high cholesterol too? I have tried statins in the past before I was diagnosed with pancreatis and I hated them. I have tried 3 different types. My doctor keeps trying to push them on me. My daughter is studying naturopathy is keeps telling me they are the worse medication out there. Also any google search comes up with such negatives and how dangerous they are for you. My doctor said I might not get pancreatis attacks if I take a statin? I am confused wouldn't this medication be bad for the pancreas and liver? If I am to go on a digestive enzyme will that help break down the fats (cholesterol) or is there a medication that is gentlier on the digestive system that can be used? If anybody can offer me some advise? My gastro appointment not until 4th august.

My foster son is also on the cholesterol lowering medicine - but he does not have high cholesterol. The endocronologist said that it will help improve his digestion and bone density.........

I was on crestor for years,I stopped taking it several months back,My primary didn't like it, but it stopped the constipation,the crestor was causing.Now I just had a blood test done and My liver enzymes are high once again and the cholesterol is very high ,so today I have started Zocor .I hope it doesn't have the bad side effects like all the past one's have had.Good luck to you.I take the creon as well,Mostly a vitamin regimen has helped me quite a bit.a,b,c,d,e,and magnesium every day.

I never had high cholesterol or tryglicerides until all of this pancreatitis stuff surfaced. I have almost cut out all fats and I eat almost perfectly and my levels are still high. I just don't understand why.

Same with me,I never had the issue until the Pancreatitis started. I just started zocor not sure how I will do on it,but I suddenly have a bad rash on my back It makes me wonder if the new cholesterol medicine had caused the rash? It seems as though their all bad for you.

Thank you for your replies, yes I too wonder if the high cholesterol is brought on by the pancreatis? But I started getting high cholesterol when they took my gallbladder out.
I have started taking a naturopathic digestive enzyme this last week and I have noticed a major improvement in my digestion / pain / gas and bowels. It will be interesting to see how my blood test results are this month?

I recently started a probiotic it seems to have helped with the digestive system.I have done good on them so far.

My cholesterol is borderline high. My gastro dr. said it is probably because of my pancreatitis. My intern says it's not really high enough to take a med for it. My two nieces had severe joint pain from taking a cholesterol med. So I'm steering clear. I'm trying - ha ha - to stay away from sweets which is my weakness and eating better. Right now the pancreas is settled down and I'm not wanting to rock the boat. I need to take arthritis med for joint pain in hands but it upsets my stomach as well. It's a catch 22. We each have to form our own paths. None are alike. I just wish you luck on finding what is best for you.

FYI the Zocor has caused me to wake up with a vibration feeling in the upper abdomen area,and has caused blurred vision,I have a call into my Primary to see if we can find a replacement that has none of the bad side effects.

drf001 how did you get on with finding another cholesterol lowering medication ? Or did you decide to stay on zocor?

I went on the Zocor for a week and started having the vibrating all over again, not to mention a rash and feeling really bad.I did some research and ordered from puritans pride a cholesterol reducer,I haven;t got it yet hope to get it today.It's called Glucomannan 500 mg Konjac Root.I ordered Milk Thistle for my liver also.I still haven't gotten all the zocor out of my system but I'am hoping this helps.It's got to be better than the statins.I hope this is of some help to you.I will keep you posted as to how it works.

My triglycerides are in the thousands (genetic problem) and I am on 4 different medications for it which doesn't help too much. The high triglycerides cause acute pancreatitis. Sometime thyroid problems also contribute to high cholesterol and triglycerides. Lipitor (statin med) is worst than Crestor (another statin med). The Crestor hasn't caused me much issues like the Lipitor did...I had severe leg cramps and pain with it. Low fat and Low Carb diet also helps with lowering your cholesterol or triglycerides. Lean lean protein (meats are high in fats). Carbs turn into sugar and stored as fat. I hope this helps.
