Has anyone here had a 'Celiac Plexus Block'? I had an EUS guided block in December 2015 at 'Columbia Pancreas Center NYC' which helped somewhat but it has since worn off. I am wondering if repeating the procedure it worth flying back up to NYC....Any information is appreciated. For those unfamiliar...Celiac plexus blocks are injections of pain medication that help relieve abdominal pain, commonly due to cancer or chronic pancreatitis. The celiac plexus is a bundle of nerves that surrounds the aorta, the main artery into your abdomen.
I've had several celiac plexus blocks. The last one helped lots. I have SOD and have had the pancreas duct cut open several times with stents put in. Since I had the last block, it's been 18 months I'm finally feeling well again. Good luck with this. The last one I had, they called it a permanent block. I don't know the differences. Thank you for the comment and the encouragement. I'm chronic pancreatitis with SOD as well. Columbia mentioned a stent may be in my future. Did the stents work well? I'm curious...with your SOD, do you have a hard spasm sensation that literally makes you yelp out loud followed by pain, nausea, can't eat etc.? I have difficulty explaining what it actually feels like so I call it a spasm. (My poor attempt at description is: it's like a hard, clamping down, twisting sensation and a bursting sensation all at the same time...feels kind of like something inside bursts...it's so difficult to explain it).
