Hello I first got diagnosed with pancreatitis when i was a pharmacy student at the age of 21. I came to Cyprus (home) for xmas holidays I sort of induced my own gastritis (inflammation of stomach) because i was taking a lot of ibuprofen for my wisdom tooth ache. I started vomiting got admitted to state hospital on NYE i remember vomiting non stop literally every 5 minutes going through 20 500cc electrolytes cause i was very dehydrated. Stayed there for 5 days Doctors there were rubbish though they kept saying oh its just a virus its gas so we ended up going private.
At this private hospital they did an ultrasound and found that i vomited so much i caused formation of sludge on my gallbladder. This lead to pancreatitis i stayed at this hospital for another 6 days then my amylase went back down to normal levels. Sludge disappeared. I flew back to UK for my university. I had a very wild lifestyle at uni I kept drinking eating fatty foods. I didnt understand how serious this disease was at the time.

Then (26 yrs old) I was in Scotland for holiday early this September. I had my period started throwing up non stop went to the A and E dept myself. They kept me for some time then literally kicked me out saying there is nothing they can do even if I have pancreatitis as the Dr there did not understand anything about it and the hospital was at full capacity. I tried to fly back to England which is where I live at the moment they didnt let me on the plane at first it was horrible. I rang up my specialist who treated me in Cyprus flew to Oxford got admitted there to get some electrolytes then got emergency flight for me and my parents who were with me at the time THANK GOD! We flew back i got admitted my amylase was around 700s not as high as yours. I stayed in the hospital for 15 days. They did an MRCP to see if i had any crystals or anything around my bile duct. They came to the conclusion that I had viral pancreatitis as all these tests came negative.

It is a horrible disease i just want to find out how or why i got it? I dont want to go through this again. Only just got out of hospital literally cried my way out! I am still in Cyprus at the moment under observation.

When you had your E coli and kidney infection were you throwing up before? I am losing my mind reading so many things about it. Is this going to happen every time i throw up. I am very scared about getting pregnant in the future because of this.

Sorry about the rant this disease really messed up with my brain. I dont recommend drinking though. I m thinking about quitting all the foods that exhaust pancreatitis. IT is just not worth it.

Hello, I have just turned 24 this november. I was 22 when I suffered a severe acute necrotizing pancreatitus attack. I have not heard of any attacks being caused by Uti's, I have heard of idiopathic, gallstone, drinking, and triglyceride related. In my area of New York, I've heard of a case where someone's was unknown, a girl in her 20's like me was caused from her birth control, and alcohol related. In my case.. I would drink alcohol here and there, and was on medicine for high cholesterol which had been found. An outing with my sister's for one of their birthday's sent me into this horrible attack 3 months later June 2016. I had this very... full stomach feeling, and my eating habits weren't good, I'd eat whatever, drink on the weekends, not connecting the food/alcohol to how horribly upset my stomach would feel ( lots of trips to the bathroom. I thought maybe I had a virus, or a side effect as I'd been taking antibiotics for things here and there. Well, it felt like my stomach would sting at times, randomly, especially when drinking, even wine coolers. I was and am still taking rantidine for stomach acid. This gas pain and the feeling of being so stuffed like after eating a thanksgiving dinner.. just didn't seem to be going away. Eventually the stinging which felt like it was under my skin on my left rib area, began to feel like a twig was jabbing into it at times. I took my temperature one night whilst drinking a wine cooler, feeling hot and flushed, and it said 99.1. I scheduled a doctor's appointment, not too long after march on my drinking outing. I had probably every liquor on the shelf you could think of, what's called a "death mix", I never even threw up. Well, I had blood tests, the doctor felt a mass and ordered me a series of x rays for my upper gi and two weeks out from work. Additionally an ultrasound was also done. I was leaning towards I probably had a stomach ulcer. Nope. They knew I had high cholesterol, but nothing ever showed up on these tests. 3 months passed, and when all of this bloating and stuff got worse, so worse.. that when I got two and a half hours into work I had to stop. I was nauseated and had terrible back pain. My heart was beating fast, I didn't feel like eating, and between my front left side and boring into my left side of my back.. was sickening feeling of pain. When all my tests had the green sign, still not feeling well, I had done some googling. i came across gastritus, and pancreatitis. I thought, no way in heck do I have that, that sounds terrible. I went into the e.r later than evening. Laying down, crunching forward, or anything I did, did nothing to relieve my pain, not even ibuprofen which I took 2. I remember trying to walk around the store, and could barely walk. I was admitted into the hospital not even an hour later and after throwing up 3 times. I had bloodwork and a c-t scan with iv contrast done. I later found out that, x-rays and ultrasounds can miss the pancreas, as it's a nicely hidden organ. My triglyceride levels were 9,000. 1,000 is enough for a pancreatitis attack. In this first hospital, I had a ng tube inserted into my stomach, but the food I was being given intravenously was further inflaming my pancreas, it wasn't giving it a chance to rest. I spent maybe 5 days to a week in this first hospital. Since I literally and could barely even get out of bed without feeling like two slabs of rock were crushing me, I was not able to move much. I was given morphine every 2 hours, which after the first hour.. as it was wearing off the pain was excruciating. I can't even explain it, I felt like my back and my front were being crushed. I developed pneumonia also, while in this hospital. I was sent off to another hospital an hour away, after not much improvement, the doctor also believed I was developing a pseudo-cyst. My last night there, i was taken off the morphine for some reason, and I only had about 2 hours of sleep. I really thought I was dying. Once in the other hospital, they told me, I had severe acute necrotizing pancreatitis. Along with pneumonia I had also suffered a pulmonary embolism. I had a very hard time catching my breath, getting up and going to the bathroom and back to the bed. 10 steps... but that meant horrible pain, hard time breathing, and about 20 minutes of trying to get myself back into a position where I was comfortable enough. My entire body was swollen with fluids. My weight gain went up about 40 pounds just in fluids. My kidneys almost went into failure. I had another tube reinserted, this time extending past by stomache... so when I was fed, it would not touch by pancreas. I was back on morphine thank god for that. I was told I would never be able to take birth control pills, or much to my reluctance, drink again. I have familial hyperlipidemia, hypetryglycerdemia, or what my endocrine doctor calls chylomicronemia. I'm not sure which one it is, but from what I understand chylomicronemia, is where you have a broken lipo protein base.. which enables your body to break down fats... generally with this rare disorder, fenofibrates or statins usually on their own can't effectively bring down the high levels, but two years later... and my levels are staying normal. They got my levels down with the use of insulin. It took about another week.. until I could go home. The one doctor told me, I had nearly died. My sisters said, my lips turned blue at one point, they thought I wasn't going to make it another night. The pseuo cyst.. I had devloped.. had grown almost upto 6cm.. months after being out of the hospital, but it resolved on it's own. My necrosis of the pancreas, was luckily, sterile.. So all in all, with insulin, blood thinners, a feeding tube that went past by stomach, and antibiotics.. I was able to recover. I still can't drink, I asked the doctor again just to make sure.. but I was told even a little bit, could wreak havoc with my pancreas. Most likely I have some scar tissue, which I still feel some stinging from, from time to time. I have not drank anything since, and I struggle at times, especially during the holidays, or social settings. Being 24. losing the ability to socially have a drink, and for that option.. is the hardest thing. I was extremely lucky, a miracle, for how bad my situation got. I wouldn't wish the pain on my worst enemy. I am sorry, you went through this too. It's nice to know your not so alone in the world with this, I just wonder how it is for people my age, to get beyond the drinking thing too. From when I was 13 up I always looked forward to social functions, to drink, play beer pong etc, now I feel so weird.
