Met with my GP today and she thought my reaction was probably from the anesthesia. She prescribed ProAir.
Lots of posts about the same symptom after surgery. Most blame the oxygen or oxygen delivery system. If my GP is correct it could also be the anesthesia.
The short breath is likely that a change to his settings is needed. They usually leave the device at factory settings until they can get a feel for his specific needs. Make sure you contact the doctor and let them know what is going on.
