Harriet is pushing her sweet husband away and meeting an old friend, Nick, whom she saw at the wedding. They are talking about going away for a weekend. She has yet to have sex with Nick, but she is certainly engaged in an emotional affair with Nick. Her husband realizes something is wrong, but doesn't know how to fix the problems.
Susan had to put her mother, Alice, into a nursing home because the Alzheimer's was more than they could manage at home. Susan feels horrible about the situation and wishes she could do more so she visits her mother almost every day. She will have to come to grips with the loss of the mother she knew and give herself time to be alone and regroup.
I don't even know what book they are reading this month, because I am so caught up in the aspects of the women's lives! They are each facing choices that are common to women in various age groups. I can certainly relate to some of them on a personal level.
Everyone's lives are changing yet they are in a state of immobility. No one seems to know what the future holds and the only one's making any changes are Nichole and Cressida. Nichole has decided to divorce Gavin but has no further plan than to avoid him completely. Cressida is keeping the baby, staying at home with Polly, and has allowed Elliot to be involved in the baby's life. Polly hopes she stays at home and goes back to school while allowing Polly to raise the baby. This means Polly has broken off her relationship with Jack who wanted to marry her, but not to have any children to raise.
It makes me sad that these women seem to be stuck. I'll have more to report soon.
