Example:

Shirley MacLaine was in it...she delivered the line. And yes, from the '80s. Big cry fest of a film. Debra Winger was in it too...she played the dying daughter being referenced.

It sounds like you are on the right track marcia, so hopefully that was a little extra push to get you to the right movie.
