Over The Fence Community Group
A quote from one of our happy Over The Fence members: "Hi JS- Thank you for the welcome message. Do you remember that show Home Improvement and the neighbor Wilson Wilson Jr. who would meet Tim the Tool Man at the fence, but never showed anything but his eyes? He was so funny. This group reminds me of those encounters... you get the wisdom, humor, and support from your DS...
P.S. I will continue reading the rest of the posts. This is very helpful. Thanks.
If we are to be complete we must say, "I am recovering from ..." NOT - "I have ... " Remember the importance that the Bible assigns to "every word that proceeds from our mouth. "

When you find yourself in a position in life where you are not happy with the way things are going, it is good to evaluate what you are doing and thinking. Get rid of the thoughts, attitudes, and behaviors that are holding you back. Determine what thoughts, attitudes, and behaviors you would like to have in your life. Positive thoughts lead to positive behaviors. Positive attitudes drive positive thoughts.
So, if you want to change, look around. Is there someone you know that has a life similar to what you would like? How does that person behave in public? Do they volunteer? Do they attend mass every day? What sorts of things do they talk about? How do they address strangers? How do they talk to their loved ones? When you see them on the street or at the store, do they complain about their bodies/illnesses/children/ life circumstances? Or do they smile and make others feel good just being in their presence? How do they treat themselves? This is very important!
I know you desire a God centered life. You have shared your desire to attend mass more often. You have demonstrated a strong desire to use this Lenten season as a time to become closer to God and I certainly appreciate the scripture that you are sharing with us on OTFN. YOUR BEHAVIOR IS WORKING TO CHANGE YOUR THOUGHTS. As these thoughts change you will develop new neural connections in the brain. So by acting "as if" you have a God centered life...you are getting closer to having the life you desire. The more you consciously change your behaviors, the more your thoughts will change. Soon the old ways of acting and reacting to others will be different.
To me there is very little difference between the behavioral changes proposed by Dr. Leaf and the scripture asking us to have the faith of a mustard seed. The more we rely on our faith, which cannot be measured scientifically, the more we have faith. Our faith grows through the use of the little bit of faith we start with....same with our behaviors.
Does this clarify what I wanted to share? I hope so. I have found that many of the people on this website are kind, compassionate, individuals who really want to help one another. We don't always know the right thing to say, but if we let God work through us, we will find the right words to comfort one another. God has given us each a manner of working His will and you NDY are a strong instrument of the Lord! You are definitely a blessing and I feel blessed to call you friend.

From reading "Toxic Thoughts" my attitude of gratitude has changed immensely! I hope that all who encounter this teaching will take it to heart and practice it in their lives as it is truly a life changing philosophy. Use it as a tool to help others. I have passed this browser address to many others here on DS who have accepted their illnesses as "life sentences' by proclamations of their very own mouths.
" I am ( this) " or I have ( that ) can be suddenly changed merely by saying," I am a recovering ( this) " or "I am recovering from (that) ". Can't you see where the first step to getting better is believing in your own recovery.
But don't just stop at that particular teaching.. Read on because what thoughts you accept from others is important also. Just because some one says something doesn't mean that you need to accept that thought....There is so much more in this teaching of " Toxix Thoughts" that Admin Ddebbbie has shared with us..
Read on and truly think about what you are reading ...
